I thought Jesus gets played in big games; e.g against Real Madrid in CL.

I get what you say comparing him to Kulu, which is fair enough. However the Kulu deal was also a bigger risk because there's a higher chance that it doesn't work out (new league etc etc). The fact that it did is great for us, but this doesn't always happen (e.g. Ndom, Lo Celso etc etc).

With Jesus at least the 'worst case' sceanrio wont be as bad as Ndom and GLC, due to prior PL exp.

You pay a premium because the risk is smaller (or the re-sale value bigger); whether you like the trade-off is subjective.
I think it would be a risk though, as £40-50m should buy a player who is expected to improve our starting XI, not someone who is proven to only be good enough as a rotation player.

I think Jesus would improve our starting XI. He would be just behnd Kane and Son, on par with Kulu. We have more games next season with CL so I don't think he would just be for rotation purposes the way City uses him.

40-50m should buy a 'guranteed starter'. However given recent flops (Ndom + GLC and even Sissoko to some extent), lack of PL exp is a big hinderance (and therefore should come at a big discount).

Having said that I dont think Jesus is a 'no brainer'. I just say it's not a black and white situation as he can make a difference, but as you say, depends on price in the end.

So you'd start him over Kulu?

I wouldn't want him to play as much for us as he has for City. There is no way he is going to leave them to do anything other than be a nailed on starter which he wouldn't be for us.

If he's not as good as Kane or Son and is on a par with Kulu then, in your opinion, he would not improve our starting XI.

He won't be an automatic starter like the aformentioned 2 but he would compete with Kulu. That's still starting 11 no?

I think we will struggle to get someone in of Kane + Son's quality. I would settle for Kulu-level, at the right price.

Being on par with someone in our starting XI does not improve our starting XI. It simply adds depth (not a bad thing, but not necessarily our best use of the reported £40-50m).

True. Appreciate the patient replies.
FWIW I would be happy to have Jesus in our squad, I'm just put off by the likely transfer fee and wages.

It would be similar to Liverpool signing Diaz when they already had Salah, Mane, Firminho & Jota. The key difference is that Liverpool already has a starting XI that regularly challenges for and wins major trophies, while our starting XI has shortcomings that need to be prioritised. If we were to somehow sign him plus strengthen sufficiently in other areas, I will not complain.

That's a good analogy with Liverpool. I guess you are more price sensitive than me; I might be placing too high a premium on the PL exp.
