Hang on, you're twisting my narrative a bit here.

My post was in response of someone saying that we need to hire him now with a view to securing targets for the summer, all I'm saying is that we don't need to as he could easily provide names from his scouting network now, I wouldn't even be surprised if him and Mourinho kept in contact when he was out of work and speak regularly about this.

I'm not sure how it wouldn't benefit either when he's literally assisting his future employers thus making his transition easier.

There's no benefit because we'd still sign him anyway even if he doesn't do that. Why risk his reputation and integrity etc. For the sake of getting a couple of months head start in a new job? And if we tried to make him do it otherwise we wouldn't hire him he's just tell us to fuck off anyway cos he knows he can walk into virtually any club in the world if he wants to.

Also given that we'd be hiring him (and presumably paying him hansomly) for his knowledge of potiential new players, why would he give us all the players up his sleeve before we've even hired him? His biggest asset is that he knows these hidden gems that others may not have discovered so he'd be daft to give it all up for free.

Like I say it's highly unethical and doesn't really benefit him. If your point is just that he physically could do all this before we hire him then yes youre technically right. He could do that but it just doesn't make much sense to me.

Levy may find it hard to relinquish control but it’s probably easier to do that with someone like Campos who has the track record.

I think we all know Poch didn’t want a SD above him, he wanted more influence over signings. Hence his job title change, that can be for no other reason. The problem is Poch’s eye for a player and judgement in player recruitment was questionable to say the least. Would be no surprise if Levy didn’t fully trust Poch after previous failed signings and that was part of the conflict that developed.

Levy has favoured the model in the past. I can see this happening.

Small snippet in The Sunday Times on this

The Sunday Times understands that Mourinho is working to bring Luis Campos, the Lille sporting director, to Tottenham. Campos, who worked with Mourinho at Real Madrid and remains a confidant, has been asked if he would be interested in filling Spurs’ vacant technical-director role.

Really hope not. We’re desperate for an appointment like this. Levy doesn’t have the vision when it comes to purchasing players. He’s a chairman ffs not a scout but clearly seems to think he’s both. It hasn’t worked!

No, he dosen't seems to think he's both. He wanted to hire a director but Poch said no.

Maybe. It’s quite common knowledge that Levy bought Jack Clarke, rather than Poch so the whole dynamic between Chairman and player purchasing needs to be refined urgently.

Basically, he has an analytics scouting company that has a contract with Lille. I’d imagine they profile all their young players as well as prospective signings.

Pleat also scouted Dele and I think Clarke was an attempt to return to that model despite Poch. Poch was many things, but I tend to think he won't become a true great like Pep and Klopp until he accepts the structure those two thrive under.

I don’t think it’s a case of Levy scouting him. The club will have a scouting team and young players will be bought.

The head coach won’t have full control of young players being bought.

Exactly.

I think Levy loves the DOF. I always think he wanted Arnesen to succeed and stay. He loved the setup.
Certainly he's flirted with it a few times now but then changed direction for differing reasons.

Didn't we go for Campos when we got José in? I think he's the one Levy wants but isn't available until the summer.
He sounds like someone worth going for. Do you reckon that he would be given carte blanche to do what he needs to do? Obviously DL will always make the final decisions and that is his prerogative but I guess that any director of football would need to have a certain amount of freedom to get on with the job without too much interference.
