I thought he was really good yesterday. He was a lot more positive and tried to take charge with a few good forward runs. I'd say he's consciously looking to make things happen more at the moment than he has in the past. The Mourinho direct message has certainly resonated with him and you can see the urgency more.

As others have said he is a one two give and go type player and that is wasted in a two with a Dier or Sissoko next to him.

I don’t feel Sissoko or Dier are good enough for our midfield. Sissoko can’t pass well and seems to hide a bit from receiving the ball and Dier is just to slow.

Yes Winks ain’t perfect but you can see how good he looks playing with another player that can pass and move. If we get a defensive midfielder they have to be mobile with a decent pass to bring the best out of Winks, Gio and Ndombele.

Saw more of the ball than any non defender on the pitch from either side, played the most successful passes on the pitch from either side, and made two 2 key passes (joint 4th most from either side with Son and behind Lucas and Bergwijn for us (3) and Grealish for Villa (5).

Sissoko is good enough as an extra man and to inject some physicality and energy. Should not be a starter in a 2 man midfield though.

Sissoko may not be good enough for the first team if all are fit but he is a valuable member of the squad. We dont have to judge players solely for the first team but also someone to come off the bench when we need that power and strength. Gedson is still a boy and while he has impressed Sissoko is someone who can run all day with some strength and can bully the opposition.

Issue is that the club has often been poor at building squad depth in certain areas and so players that are good enough to be squad have been first team instead due to necessity.

I think Sissoko is a fine squad member just not a first 11.

I agree. Also we tend to want to get rid of personnel who are nearing an age we may not get any cash for - whcih I understand but think some experience in the squad is important. Sissoko isnt the best but he will certainly add pace and power to certain situation which I think Jose likes anyways.

Testament to his character and (Lo Celso) that Jose said so himself that he wanted a particular type of midfield pairing and these two have come in and forced their way in despite not being that type of pairing. Thought he was fantastic yesterday and produced some great balls over the top but also putting them into Dele who would release Moura, Bergwijn and Son.

I think he is playing
to new orders.
Jenas wasn't 'world class'
but was well liked
by all his managers
up to and including
International level
because he did
what the Manager wanted.

I think Winks is one of the positions Jose will be upgrading in the summer unfortunately for him.
I think Jose already trusts him, and the fact that he can play 6 and 8, is HG, means he’s gonna be a very vital member of the squad next season. He may not be first choice if we sign a more physical, defensive 6, but he’ll play a lot of football.

I think Winks has always done what he's told to do. If his passing at times has been conservative and safe, IMO, that's what he's been told to do. When he has decent footballers around him who find spaces and make themselves available all of the time (GLC, Ndombele) he suddenly becomes far more progressive with his passing.

The most improved player under Jose. He was class yesterday. Proactive, energetic, forward looking. Played three or four excellent forward balls.
It’s telling that Jose always describes our CM options as one other plus Winks.

Starting to think that he's a 6 rather than an 8. His defensive awareness has improved a lot since JM took over, which was his main issue.

I don’t get the people saying he wasn’t all that today, even in the first half I thought he was one of our better players. But second half he was brilliant. He made more forward runs and passes in this game than I’ve ever seen him do in any other game for us. And almost all of them were spot on too. Even had a decent shot too!

I really fucking love Harry Winks. He got lost amongst our fans when celebrating the winner with us. He stuck his whole hand in Gedson’s mouth for no real reason except he was happy with our winner. He’s improving all the time and it’s vital he plays with the right players in order to bring the best out of him. I genuinely can’t get my head around the negativity from some of you.
Hear hear!

I think Dier is finished with us, but Sissoko I feel still has a bright future with us. No one in the club has that driving and forceful runs. Will be useful for us.

I feel Jose likes big powerful players in that area
