Duncan Castles has told The Transfer Window Podcast that Sevilla were ready to sell Bryan Gil to a Serie A club for just £5 million before Tottenham Hotspur got involved and eventually paid £21 million with Erik Lamela moving in the opposite direction.

There seem to be loads of stories trying to make Paratici look bad lately. Maybe he's not too popular because he's more friendly with the Italian journalists than the tabloid hacks.

At the bottom of the story it pretty much says "this sounds like bullshit to us, but even still they probably overpaid a bit"

They were willing to sell a just-capped Spanish international for £5m? And this creature is willing to put his name to that!? Whatever incentive structure he is operating to, a shameful degree of total implausibility isn't properly penalised by it.

Duncan Castles is a tier 4 journalists. That's embarrassing. Aquayid was probably tier 3.
He's a fantasist trying to cling to relevance by being provocative. It's shameful really.

Duncan Castles used to have some info & relevance about maybe 5 years ago now? Now everything I see & hear from him now is so obviously bullshit. He’s lost whatever source he had so now just blatantly makes shit up.

So easy for sports journalists nowadays - just write anything about Spurs transfer businesses being bad, in anyway, click and publish. Tada.

Lots of push back here, but has he looked like much more than a 5million prospect. Even including what he's done in Spain?

I was glad we moved Lamela on, but what exactly is/was Paratici's aspiration with this guy? Are we in a place to take risks on untested youth for 21M plus a player?

I'm not saying he wasn't overvalued, but 5 mil?? I mean Fulham were getting 8 mil for Carvalho who is far less proven and had 6 months left on his contract.
We paid 5 mil for John Bostock 10 years ago.
Are English and Spanish transfers that different in value, even with England tax?

Also if anyone begins a negotiation with "I won't accept less than 20 mil" that to me is their top end price, and you negotiate down from there.
Even the most green negotiator would know that, and at worst would pay only that. Negotiate up???? Absolute bollocks.

Clearly this story is rubbish. The press write conflicting rubbish about Spurs. One minute Levy is portrayed as being unwilling to part with money and the next as a blithering idiot throwing it around like confetti.
