Real Madrid to battle Tottenham for £21.5m Germany star

Tottenham transfer news: Real Madrid enter race for IIkay Gundogan

Tottenham face competition from Real Madrid for the signing of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, according to talkSPORT.
The report claims Gundogan would likely cost around £21.5m, and while that price may make eyes water at White Hart Lane, Real Madrid are reportedly considering a move for the midfielder.
Gundogan is one of several defensive midfielders under consideration at the Bernabeu. Reports claim Xabi Alonso is yet to sign a new contract at Real Madrid - his current deal expires at the end of next season - and Gundogan, along with Manchester City's Javi Garcia, is one of the candidates to replace him.
22-year-old Gundogan has been capped five times for Germany, and has impressed in this year's Champions League.
Borussia Dortmund have progressed to the quarter-finals, where they will play Malaga, and Gundogan is one of several young talented German internationals to have flourished in the competition.
The reigning Bundesliga champions signed Gundogan from Nuremberg for £4.8m in 2011, but the report claims he's set to command a fee closer to £20m should Dortmund choose to sell him on at the end of the season.
Tottenham have been linked with the midfielder in the past, especially when it became clear Luka Modric was to be sold last summer.
Spurs now have Mousa Dembele, Scott Parker, Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore in the middle of the park.

While I am a hugeeeee Ilkay Gundogan fan, I just don't see the logic behind the move. Too expensive for the amount of playing time he would realistically share. We need a younger guy who would be okay with part-time duties in midfield. Sandro and Dembele will be the stars of the show. I think Livermore and Carroll are good options for spot starts and substitutions. We need that young guy who can be the best of both worlds (attack/defense). My standard suggestions: Pedro Obiang and Jordy Clasie.

Don't get me wrong, though. If we added Ilkay Gundogan it'd be instant jizzedmypants.jpg

This, pretty much I would love it to happen and but we need to sell Dempsey, Hudd, Parker and loan Livermore for this to happen, we dont have a good record of getting rid of players

Obiang's just signed a new contract, but Clasie is a different story altogether. A more cultured Scott Parker at the end of the day.

Elm of cska would slot in well, too.

Always rated him. He's the scandinavian version of Damiao though, always linked to him but never happens. First linked when he was at Kalmar - two clubs and 4 years ago! We were thought to have signed him in 2011 too.....
