Am I right in thinking none of our players has ever won a major trophy before? That hunger was certainly on show today - probably THE major difference between the teams.

Oh yeah, well, Scottish football doesn't really count, does it? :)
OK, apart from Hutton ...? Don't think Berba ever won anything at Leverkusen - they made losing in finals a bit of a speciality. Ballack never won anything with them either, apparently.

Don't think Leverkusen ever won the Bundesliga. They had that year (2002?) where they were runners-up in all three tournaments, League, CL and Cup. Don't think they ever won, but I could be wrong.

There was a Bulgarian bloke at that forum who was trying to convince me that Berbatov would fail in the big games/finals, because he is a loser. There was invented a whole mythology about him that he was cursed to not win a trophey. In his more depressive moments he was ready to buy into it. This is why that trophey is very special for him. Scoring the penalty kick was an incredibly important moment in his career. Given his failure at CSKA and Bayer to win for his team the most important games and the mythology that he is a bad loser, I don't think you really can understand the enormous pressure on him when he was going to take the penalty. Nevertheless, he scored as if he was on the training ground. That was fantastic.

Quite possibly the best penalty I have ever seen. And his celebration afterwards brought a tear to my eye it just goes to show how passionate he really is despite his calm exterior
