Few points from last night

Just a few things I spotted in the game last night:

Firstly overall I thought we played pretty well but lacked that cutting edge, Robinson is still improving and Woodgate was solid again, didnt think King looked fully fit and Keano seemed a bit off the pace, maybe too many games in recent weeks.

With the penalties I was really pleased to see Bent score a good pen, should help his confidence. also Zokora might now be more composed around the goal, he had a good game, but there was a couple of minutes when your saw both sides of Zokora. Towards the end of the game, he made a good tackle just outside our box, then sprinted with the ball straight towards their goal, exactly what was needed, however the next minute he gave away a silly and pointless freekick in a dangerous position. He, chimbonda, THudd and Steed really need to eradicate these things, if they are to push us to a top 4 position next year.

My final point is about our wingers and especially Lennon. He is really lacking confidence at the minute, to take a man on and whip it in the box, and thats whats going to prevent him from being the world class player I hope he will become. If it was Man U in a penalty shootout, Ronaldo would be the first man standing up, but our wingers dont have enough confidence in their own ability to take a penalty before Chimbonda, maybe even Woodgate would have been next.

Some good points there, on the penalties though, being an attacking player like Lennon doesn't mean you'll be good at penalties, it's just who has the bottle to take one. If you take a few in training and miss, you're not gonna fancy one during a tense penalty shootout.

I remember when England lost on penalties in the last world cup, Sven took Lennon off so he couldnt take a penalty, and Jol came out and said he didn't understand that cos Lennon was one of the best Penalty Takers at Spurs...So when Chimbonda went up last night, i was screaming for it to be Lennon....I dont get it, i really dont...Since Chimbondas outburst after 5-1 arse game, he seems to have had no realpassion in his play, and with that in mind, i was so annoyed that he wanted to take a penalty, Ramos shouldn't have let him......But in the long run, Jenas blew it, had h scored we go thru...why oh why did he try and place it??? at waist height?? worst penalty i've seen in ages....He should've just pelted the bloody thing and if the keeper got to it, it would've taken him into the net too....no sense in placing that penalty, just bloody pelt it low, down the middle..muppet.

I think we were as poor as them in the first half but were were pretty good from the second half onwards.

A few poor performances, Keano (i luv ya man but sorry) was not at his best and even Berba's touch was not what it normally is. His goal was a v good strike.

Steed should have scored in the first half and was unlucky at the end with thier keeper making a blinding save.

As for the pens......Well i must admit i was prob like the rest of you thinking 'Oh no' When Zokopops stepped up. But his was a good pen as was Darren Bents.

Bent looked sharp when he came on and i reckon thats about as well as i have seen him play for us. Ok maybe he should have scored and if he was playing with a little more confidence then i think he would have done.

JJ only needed to score to send us through but did nt. Again a good save by the keeper, not a bad pen at all, at least it was on target UNLIKE Chimbonda's. Poor poor pen.

Where was Steed to take one ahead of Chimbonda? Or even Lennon (and we all know my views on him at the mo.....

Ah well there is always next year.

I beg to differ, thougt Jenas' penalty was shit! Was nervous for O'Hara's and Zoko's but was feeling pretty confident Jenas would bury his.
No power, perfect height for the keeper = shit penalty!

I just knew when it went to penalties we would lose. Unfortunately Robbo is crap at saving them. True to form he went the wrong way for all of them (diving too early gives the taker such a big advantage) He was really lucky with the one he stopped as it was almost straight down the middle and he managed to almost get out of the way until it hit his legs!
Their keeper got his hands on almost all of ours!
I can't remember Robbo ever saving a penalty - can you? (not counting the lucky one tonight)
