Barcelona sporting director Jordi Cruyff has confirmed Clement Lenglet’s move to Tottenham is imminent. Spurs have been in talks with Barca over the centre-back, who was one of a number of options being considered by managing director Fabio Paratici along with Villarreal's Pau Torres, Inter Milan's Alessandro Bastoni and RB Leipzig's Josko Gvardiol.

Imminent eh? Can only assume that all the hold ups have been around option or obligation to buy clauses.

At this rate his ‘welcome to spurs’ video will be shot on the tarmac at the airport as we head off to Korea

The other options must have fallen through then... not totally impressed, but he could prove me wrong...

Stange not to have an option to buy. I suppose it kicks the can down the road for another year.

Strange indeed. I guess we wait til all the details are out but this really doesn't make any sense. It's almost as if we're expecting him to be crap, so not bothering with anything longer term and I don't believe that. I don't see Levy sanctioning a deal that doesn't have an option clause personally.

He's not our first choice, I think the plan is to go back for Bastoni or Gvardiol next year, bit risky though, every top club will be all over Gvardial like a rash.

Even if that's true, having an option to buy is pretty fundamental. If Lenglet plays well enough we might not even need to spend 50m+ on either of them, and if he doesn't play well it's only cost us the loan fee and reduced wages. Plus, Conte has tried to sign Lenglet before so obviously rates him, and we might not get anywhere near Bastoni or Gvardiol.
