Yes, great to welcome back the "Os" to the big time. A great local club and some very loyal supporters who deserved better. Hope they flourish in league 2.
So very very sad. One of the true Spurs legends. Privileged to have seen him play throughout the glory years. Saw his home debut in the 2-2 draw with Everton. Wonderful one-touch player and a great header of the ball.
RIP Gillie
So sad to hear of this. Gillie was one of my boyhood heroes, along with Jimmy Greaves and Cliff Jones. I just hope that he can respond to treatment.
Truly, one of the real Spurs legends.
A very good player. Often disparaged amd under-rated for being big and bustling but he had some smooth skills. Jimmy Greaves is credited as saying that he owed Bobby for half his goals by making space and clearing the decks for Jim to skip through the gaps.
Loved him.
Sad he passed
of course, lists of this kind are very subjective and the younger members have no memory of the 60 and 70 teams.
I feel that Alan Gilzean really deserves a spot as he combined so well with both Greaves and Chivers . As people have said, so many great players to choose from. Knowles, Clemence...
Point taken but I still believe he deserves better recognition for the player he was. The comparison with Alli, although judstified, was made by his former tean-mates who all recognised his abilities. Martin Peters was superb in the air and had that great ability to ghost in un-noticed (as does...
Martin really was under-appreciated by Spurs fans, possibly because our idol Jimmy Greaves moved to West Ham as part of the deal. He formed a great partnership with Chivers and Gilzean in the early 1970s and it's a shame that he is largely forgotten when we talk of our great players of the past...
I've been supporting Spurs since 1959 (now 68) and it's just too difficult to choose because the question doesn't limit to time. I would go for Jimmy Greaves against Newcastle, Glenn Hoddle against Man Utd (And Glenn's goal against Watford was pretty special and David Ginola's against Bradford...
Truly one of the Greats. Could conjure goals out on nothing. he was idolised (quite rightly so) by our fans and still is today by those of us who were priviliged to see him play. The goal he scored against Leicester at WHL remains the greatest goal I've ever seen. Unfortunately, it wasn't shown...
Very sad. My second favourite team. Spurs one week and the Os the next..Spent the 70s in the old second division and Ralph Coates and Ian Moores played for the Os after leaving us. Had a season in the old 1st Division around 1962 when another old Spur, Dave Dunmore, played for them. Good nursery...
simply the best. Like all older supporters, to me Jim was the greatest and always will be. Hope his health improves.
Thanks for trhe wonderful memories Jim
Great game and what a result after the 2-2 draw at Crewe.
I went with my Dad. He took me to just 3 Spurs games. My first ever Spurs game was against Birmingham City and we won 7-1 (alfie Stokes got 5!) then the Crewe game and finally against Sunderland when we lost 1-0.
So, just in 3 games he...
Very sad to hear the news. Peter was a very under-rated member of the double side. As a lad, my attention was on Danny, Dave, Cliff John White and Bobby Smith, Peter and Ron Henry seemed to miss out in the fans' adulation. A real team player and part of our proud heritage.
RIP Peter
Some great, great goals mentioned. very difficult to choose..Hoddle's volley against Man Utd definitely my 2nd favourite and No1 is Greaves's against Leicester when he beat 5 men, dribbled around Peter Shilton and stroked it into the net. Cosmic Spur did mention this as one of her favourites but...
