I liked how he always wanted to pass it forward and if it wasn’t on, he chose the simpler alternative.

The assist may look easy but he is waiting for movement, not rushing, and when Bentancur makes the run he doesn’t have to break stride to receive the ball.

The way he is talking about loving to be back in England makes you believe he will do everything he can to get a permanent deal.

i just watched post match the pundits did a clip of all of his chances and yes he did miss them, especially one where he cut infield from the left and blasted high and wide + the pundits all saying he should finish with the one with his left foot (and sherwood saying he should work on it) and had this thought...

he is definitely going to improve massively from training and watching and modeling after Sonny's finishing - he gets into similar positions, and we all know Sonny is a killer in those positions.

In fact, I'd reckon that Sonny also levelled up training with Kane

the thing I enjoyed the most was how well he handled being pressed out wide in between lines. he really unlocked some neat progressions that allowed us to break through the middle. also provided some nice outlets on the wing that allowed Spurs to ease off the United press when the ball was on the opposite side. the rest felt very rusty: couldn't create much against Dalot 1v1, had a few poor closeouts that allowed United to break, was a bit tentative at times (I swear he had a shot at a 2nd ball near the 2nd post in a 2nd half corner) and erratic as a finisher. but of course, first game, two practice sessions, did more than good enough to fill in with such short notice. good, patient read on the assist.

If he can contribute another few assist and a 5 or 6 goals then activating the option to buy is a no brainier. Very early days yet but solid performance.

Really nice assist and made a couple of nice link passes. His finishing was the usual Werner finishing so that didn’t surprise me.

Annoyed me quite a lot in terms of taking players on. Got the ball in great areas with 1 man to beat quite a few times and just checked and passed the ball backwards. Was frustrating watching yet another Spurs player incapable of taking on their man.

That said, thought he did ok considering he hasn’t played much football and has barely trained with us. Hopefully he improves over the coming weeks.

Not a cat in hell’s chance we get better value for 15m anywhere else.

He’s got a great attitude, great pace, Is credible LW and as a CF and works his ass off. You’d buy that alone for that fee, and that’s before you consider that he’ll add goals and assists. He might miss some, so be it. But for that money that’s a total no brainer. Pleased to have him

He's such a nice kid. I know there's no loyalty in football, but I'd sign him on his personality alone.

He's played 225 mins in all comps since September and 16 mins since bonfire night. Coupled with 2 training sessions for a new team he's done well. His shots, while wide, weren't exactly 1v1 sitters either.

Agree with Nick above, he tended to not try and beat his man but that may come with confidence and game time

I thought he played better than BJ. Once he’s had time to train with the team and fully understand the tactics and his role, he’ll do much better.

I’m not writing off BJ either but I hope he finds form soon.

Fitted in well on debut, which is doubly pleasing because it indicates that our transfer strategy is on point.

I don’t think he had any easy chances so let’s wait and see re his finishing

Agree. Especially as we need quality and depth for more games next season. Be great to see him on the pitch with Maddison and Sonny too!

It's not appropriate to compare him with BJ in my opinion.

Brennan is a young player very inexperienced at this level, just starting to learn his job, and has already made some very valuable contributions despite have a huge amount to learn. In his case we pain for the huge potential he has.

In Timo's caseI think we know he's capable of being a very valuable member of the squad. His positive, intelligent attitude today simply confirms that getting him on the terms we did was a very good move.

I don't think we saw anything we didn't know today. A little concerned with how many of our players need a few opportunities to score. He's very similar to Johnson in end product.

When everyones fit he's an impact sub for me with son right, Richy in the middle and Kulu right but I like the options we have.

He seems a likeable guy and I hope he does well for us.

Personally, I'd like to see someone on the left.

I liked the way he kept the width for us today. One of our problems has been wingers and FBs all funneling into the middle and clogging things up. Timo kept out near the touchline and gave us a bit more room to breathe in the middle. Thought he did well.

Ange:

What did you make of Timo Werner's debut and what will the manner of the performance from the team with so much possession at Old Trafford do for the belief in the rest of the season?

I think it is important. It does give you growth because there's a hell of a lot of reasons for us not to perform at that level today. If we didn't, it would have been tough even for someone like me who tries to push the envelope in everything we do, I would have accepted that. But the fact that the boys put in a performance like that it does give you growth because you come out of it and you know that we're probably not going to have it as hard as we did today in terms of a build-up to a game and yet we're still going to perform at those levels.

Timo, he's had two sessions with us, he hasn't started a game for ages but I saw today I think he can be really exciting for us once he get to understand our game and gets up to speed with our training. You could see there were little moments today, he was always a threat and I think he will enjoy his football here.

More importantly today I had no option but to start him. He was a really willing participant in it. He wanted to help. He put his hand up and said whatever I can do, I'll do and it's a credit to him.

I know it’s probably a very natural thing to do (and no big deal really) for Lolo but still so grateful for it. Easiest way to become part of the team is to contribute to it; being useful when the team really needs it can expedite that chemistry that much faster and do great for your confidence.

I know if I am Timo I will be replaying this clip many times tonight to get that warm and fuzzy feeling.
