Not what I was saying at all. In the past I have been a fan of PEH. It’s just this year his choice of pass when not under pressure has been awful. His blocking is superb and he has been the last man standing. So no I don’t dislike him at all. So I am not blind and his pass last night caused Ben to stretch his hammy.
I can’t believe in having to say this, but pretty much every player gives the ball away in every game. To say his pass caused an injury is a stupid thing to say even if it’s true on one level. Using it as a stick to beat him with is absurd

Juve ended their interest in Phillips. Problem is that if they can’t afford him they are unlikely to be able to afford whatever we would want for PEH.

Yeah, I'd imagine we want cash to offset a replacement, rather than a part cash swap with a young prospect in a different position.

or we loan Phillips
Phillips as an option makes sense in a Werner way but the big issue I have with it is realistically how soon would he actually be able to contribute. He has hardly played and is probably very far from being match fit. Realistically it could take him a couple of months to get up to speed with Ange’s very high intensity football.

Beyond that obviously there’s the question of will they demand an obligation which they might, that makes it a far less attractive deal as he has an awful injury record and I’m not convinced he’s perfect for the system.

What’s for sure is I don’t see Juve agreeing to an obligation to buy or if they did it would be for a small fee. They don’t have the coin currently. So realistically he ether goes there with an option, which essentially depreciates his value as his contract is running out next year or we do some sort of trade for youth player. I think both are unlikely.

Essentially I think we just have to hope that a decent PL team comes in for him that is willing to pony up the cash.

Heard they want something like a 7m loan fee and all wages paid , might change as window goes on

Yeah possibly, swap PEH for a young talent at one of the better cash strapped clubs and loan Philips might be the way to go.
Reading @Ghost Hardware post above makes sense.
I don't see anyone paying/having the cash for him that he is happy with.
It’s a really tricky situation. He obviously wants to go and we want him to go but pretty much every team in Europe is broke and they know he will be available for free this time next year.

Personally I agree with you that a trade or part trade for a good youth prospect is the way to go but obviously the down side to that is it will limit our budget for a replacement Ie Phillips being most likely. Which is risky. Plus there’s a question of if we likes any of the youth options.

Juve for example have 3 or 4 I would take but the club might just prefer cash in which case he will probably most likely stay until summer and we try and flog him again.

PEH to Juve?

Aren't Juve also getting 20% of a Dragusin transfer.

Maybe there is a connection to be made

Agreed, especially as he would be a back up player at one of the better clubs, a Juve or Atletico, the only way I see a deal is if we're a bit more realistic with his fee, and he's a bit more realistic with his destination, he obviously wants away and I agree that barring some kind of swap deal and all parties readjusting their reality then it will be the summer he goes.

After Kane I just don't see City sell Phillips to us. Although I haven't really seen anything to suggest Ange would want him. I'm still trying to figure out the long term plan for midfield in terms of position. It seems Gallagher is one Ange likes and he's an 8. Bentancur has looked good as a 6 but only Bissouma is the other good there. I think with the demand of the 8 he could maybe prefer another who can play it rather than another 6. We just don't seem to be linked much to a 6 this window which makes me wonder. Maybe we keep Hojbjerg to cover there for now which could lead to better options for the 6 in the summer.

I don’t think City mind selling to possible rivals. Seems to me that they’re getting an unwanted player off the books and they’re selling a player not enough for them.

I haven’t seen enough of Phillips to make a confident judgment but I don’t think he’s who we should be after.

is there any bad blood between both sides? City was rumored to have made a low ball approach over Kane and obviously it would have taken an haul for the Spurs to let him go with 2 years in his contract, at 28 years old to a Premier League club. Phillips is a vastly different case. don't think that saga affects this whatsoever.

If Ange wants someone to win the ball and set a platform there aren’t many better than a fit Kalvin Philips. It’s just a question of if that’s what he wants.

To be fair to Ange he has said about having players with different skill sets. Sarr, Bentancur, Bissouma, Lo Celso, Maddison and Philips do all have different skill sets. It wouldn’t leave much space for Skipp though

Phillips, much like Werner, as a short term low risk/no obligation move I can see some virtue in but I wouldn't want us committing to a permanent transfer.

High wages and poor injury record makes me believe our resources can be best allocated to other candidates.

Sounds absolute ridicolous to demand that for a player they have used 1 time in 2 seasons .I know English players have extra value but that is for the quota in the PL, so how they can demand that as a loan is beyond me.

i also think Philips is extremely overrated, and that is what Pep found out after he purchased him as well.

Hasn't he been injured for most of his time at city? For England he was the better of rice and him during the tourneys he played in
