I was thinking about this, i think i'd rather see Lamela play this role with pace either side of him. He is more similar to him than Dele. Both work their socks off, he's technical, got an eye for a pass and think would do a better job then Dele who constantly takes 3 touches too many.

I think they could both work. Just don't agree with some on here that it's panic stations.

He's always going to give the ball away because he's high risk. I can live with that as long as we're solid behind him.
That's all very well if it's just Alli but with Son and Moura present - all pissing away possession then you've got real issues.

I'm going to stick up for him today. The time he was on the pitch was a totally different game to the last 20 or so minutes. We were playing park the bus, it meant a lot of fruitless chasing around for our attackers without the ball. We were often just clearing our lines in desperation. None of Moura, Son, Bergwijn or Alli were really able to do anything and had meagre scraps of the ball.

The likes of Lamela and Ndombele did ok but had the luxury of coming into a totally different scenario, we had a man advantage which allowed us up the pitch/forced City back and to get some of the ball and time on it. And then the pressure was largely off at 2-0 and City had the stuffing knocked out of them.

He has his deficiencies, I've called them out as much as anyone else over the years and tried to counter the 'what a great midfielder playmaker he will be' opinion that so many fans had for so long, but arguments made on the back of that match are quite disingenuous.

Jose saying that Dele might have an ankle issue after the challenge from Sterling.

I don’t know what to say that has already been said about Dele. I can’t stand to watch him much longer.

Awful again today offers absolutely nothing. Hope we have seen the last of him in the starting 11

I wonder if his performance had anything to do with being injured in the sterling challenge then playing on for the majority of the game in pain. Just a thought.

I was expecting him to say this regardless tbh. It was a terrible tackle, that should have seen him sent off. Jose saying this is just emphasising the fact.

He looked off the pace after that challenge from Sterling. People bitched about a pass he made a couple of minutes after when it was clear that the "tackle" was still affecting him.

Still can't believe that wasn't a red. Kind of sums up football these days that Son's wafty foot is a red and yet a pure ankle breaker is absolutely fine.

Lamela can’t play 80 minutes at this intensity, according to JM.

But people will still dig Alli out after playing through the pain barrier to help the team to a great 2-0 win.

Sorry but that's BS. You don't continue playing if the pain is effecting your game and your team still has subs available - you only do that if all subs have been used.

Anyway I think it's just an excuse for another dire performance. He didn't help anyone by staying on and we had several options on the bench.

P.s. watch the slow motion of the Sterling tackle and it's amazing Ali was able to carry on playing at all, so fair play to the lad for sticking with it.

Lots of examples of players going through the pain barrier. Ledley and Winks amongst them.

Sorry but that's BS. Every footballer has played through the pain barrier at some point, and needed their manager to be the one to make the call for them coming off. I take it you've never played?!

I think fans are conveniently forgetting the amount of times Lamela also hangs on the the ball too long.

People are claiming he couldn't run properly afterwards - how can a player that cannot run properly help the team? He should've gone off if that's the case since we still had 3 subs available. That's my point - sorry if it's too hard to comprehend.
