He's not a bad player, but I think we kinda overrate him because he's a lad from the academy.

He's a very handy, tidy and clever little player if used the right way and if we allow him to grow. He's still young, has a lot of scope to add to his game and people forget that to date he's only played 3,138 minutes of Premier League footballer, which is the equivalent to 34 full games in the PL.

He's a rookie that is slowly developing into a starter. He's had a few bad injuries at unfortunate times but 34 full games worth of minutes when it comes to senior domestic league football really isn't a lot. Let's see how he gets on this season.

Edit: he's started 31 senior games his whole career to date in the League. This is a big season let's get behind the boy and see If he can continue to add a few elements to his game with the experience he'll get.

Of course we do.
Doesn't mean he's not a good player
with plenty of upside
just because we think he's brilliant
as he's OOOO!!.

Some people do the opposite
because he's not a foreign ace
and didn't cost us 50 million.

Would have played more if he had not been injured.

He’s been playing for us and then not got in the national side quite a few times from memory.

Injured during the World Cup, not fit enough during the Nations League...He has never really got the required run of games to build up enough consistency to get into the England side to become a mainstay.

Winks is improving to the level I expected him to and think he'll be a mainstay in the side for some time, one legit criticism about him is that he needs to get his head up more when he's on the attack, a couple of times against Palace he should have played first time passes a bit quicker - he'll improve on that no doubt though.

Looking forward to the day we line up with a midfield of winks , ndombele ,Lo celso

My concern is, where does Alli fit in? Eriksen Kane and Son anyday imo and with winks ndombele and lo celso, Alli becomes surplus.....:X3:

agree rice does not impress me at all winks far better player

Rice is 3 years younger than Winks. If he keeps fit and focused he can become some player. Turned into a monster as well and I’ve seen Rice have a few fantastic games on TV

Winks in terms of game time is probably not a million miles away from Rice although he’s 3 years older. The problem for Harry though is that he’s had all these injuries and Poch spoke of him having a 'chronic injury that needs managing'

I think Winks is also a fantastic prospect but for me he’s playing in 2nd & 3rd gear due to his injury and him trying to stay 'fit'

He’s played some amazing games for us and those that think he’s not all that could probably write all they know about football on the back of a stamp!

Fingers crossed for HW

Rice is no where near winks's level.

Quite different players. Rice is quite similar to Dier but much more mobile. Whereas Winks is technically superior to both but not as strong in the tackle or as defensively robust.

There is room for both in the same team but if Southgate wants to really turn England into a possession-based team who is able to keep the ball against top-level opposition then Winks is perfect for the deep-lying role. We saw against both Croatia in the WC and Holland in the Nations League that England are still desperately in need of a tempo setter, who can receive the ball under pressure and use it wisely. Winks is that player and it will be a travesty if he doesn't soon become a regular for England, similar to how Carrick was criminally underused.
