I'm not overly keen from what I've seen of him either. I will concede though that he is the profile I think we need. Quick, good feet in tight area's, works hard and is used to playing in a possession based side against low blocks. That said I just don't think he's the quality of player worth the money being banded around in the media.
Think this is pretty spot on.

David is definitely not a game-changing world class talent but, as I’ve said before a few times, Ange doesn’t need his striker to be.

So while obviously it would be nice to have a world class talent at striker, it’s probably a luxury we can’t/shouldn’t be paying for when there is more pressing needs for Ange’s wants and desires for his team.

As Trix listed already, David is very good in the areas that Ange needs his strikers to be. He’s also very good at stretching the defence too, which is another important factor. So from that point of view, I think he would be a good signing (depending on fee).

Edit: Of course this is only on the assumption that we’d be spending the money on a marquee winger instead.

I mean he plays in a stronger league than Orban does and the same one Muani did before last summer, so I don't think he can be judged purely off a weak league.

I think he's widely rated as one of the top 20 STs in the word right now and given that at least 17 of the others are out of our reach then he's a good option to go for if he has the attributes that Ange is happy with.
David incidentally moved to Lille from Gent for not dissimilar money what they are quoting us re: Orban (€27m).

David is certainly more of an established player there is no doubt, but personally I’d rather take a risk on Orban or Marcos Leonardo. David will cost around €70 mil because that is how important he is to Lille but for me I think that outlay for him would be a mistake. I don’t think he is on the same level Osimhen was when Napoli bought him for example. Whilst Orban would certainly be the greater risk I think David will still be risky and that’s not what you want if you are going to spend €70 mil.

I don't think it's Fati either. He doesn't profile like Doku or Williams at all.
Could also be Laurienté but I think considering it’s our third choice it’s more likely to be a player that maybe doesn’t have the ideal skill set but more a ballpark. Johnson having the added bonus of being HG and Fati being likely put up for sale by Barca and thus an “opportunistic” buy. Have to remember Levy is still here. Personally I think there are just too many links to Johnson for him not to be on the list regardless if he exactly fits the criteria.

For the price of David, can probably get Orban and Williams. Makes more sense to do the latter, and Orban doesn’t need to be registered for this season so doesn’t impact registration.

It was also the intention (no?) to also include one of Scarlett or Veliz to be loaned out to Gent in any Orban deal - would Lille be accepting of either I wonder which pushes us down the path of David?

If Ange believes that Jonathan David is the answer so be it, but I can't see it myself. Looks like he has slow feet, runs very upright, and half-scuffs every other shot. Seems strangely cumbersome too.

I know Youtube isn't the way to scout, but I sure hope he's better than he looks on the tube if he joins.

I read somewhere today that Orban wants to go to Lille - who can't afford the fee - so I wonder if this is some kind of workaround.

The danger of course then is if Orban smashes it a Lille and is then out of our reach.

Worth noting that Orban has a quote attached to him saying he wants to go somewhere to win trophies and not a place like Arsenal. There's a consideration to be made therefore that perhaps, he's simply not interested and he's taking a Bellingham type approach of knowing what move he wants and is moving to clubs accordingly like Lille as a stepping stone, rather than a move where it might prove difficult for him to leave.

"BACK THE MANAGER!"

But when it is a player you don't like, it suddenly becomes "NO, NOT LIKE THAT!" :ROFLMAO:

Given that this is now a project for Ange, there isn't a point in trying to fix every problem in one window. We have done some excellent business. Hopefully, we don't settle or compromise too much with our transfers just for the sake of it. However, if David is the man Ange wants, and we can afford it, then why not?

You're thinking of Alphonso Davies. The best LB/LWB in the world at the moment. Though David is also Canadian. Good striker who scores goals. Would be a decent signing. Though would hope a hefty bid wouldnt preclude us from going after Toney in January if need be.
Not that it's for this thread but I'd be amazed if we ever went for Toney tbh, putting his gambling aside there are still far too many red flags.

Told v quiet we are struggling to move players out and Daniel does not want to spend what we do not receive first which makes me think the maddison , vdv buys was the kane money

told most likely is another center half over a forward , they like orban and are monitoring but no more than 50/50 chance of a deal , center half more likely

Don’t want to start a Levy bash in this thread, but the bold part doesn’t surprise me one bit. He’s probably going to ride on the Ange feel good wave.

Thanks for the info, I was thinking this. Break even on those two and wait to see what we can raise from sales as we are seemingly struggling for money...
