I respect Sanchez and the effort he always gives when he's called upon. He should defo be kept but as 4th or 5th choice over Dier, Davies and Tanganga thats for sure.

On another note-Harry didn't get a kick in the 30 minutes he played against RBLeipzig and Tuchel is predicted to be the first manager to lose his job this year

Never underestimate some of SC's posters in their ability to find negatives where there aren't any.

Why are some peopleso desperate to dog people out?

Vic was fine. He conceded from a soft penalty and a deflection on a shothe otherwise would have saved.

Royal was one of our best players.

Richy was fine but not given tonnes of service.
Brentford had nearly every player behind the ball. Always tough to find space when that happens.
All positive for me.

Probably the worst stylistic matchup we could’ve faced today. Brentford are aggressive pressing in the early build up/throw ins near GK/goal kicks, but really organized against settled possession. Only other teams in the division who’ll play that deep are Everton, Luton, Forest, Sheffield United, and maybe West Ham/Wolves. All of those teams either have less quality defensively, won’t be as aggressive in the first phase, or both. Also, final third chance creation takes time. All in on Ange, we all just need to be patient.

Now good to take it off that performance than anything else IMO.

VDV thrown right in with no prep and did well I thought, him and Udoggie down the left will be seriously hard to beat in a foot race.

We (understandably with the lack of games) tired around 75 minutes and the movement and intent dropped but still controlled the game and considering they set up to stifle us deep and narrow we still managed to create a few chances.

As we gel and get more bodies in that can implement Ange's system I'm sure it will look/get even better.

COYS!

Exactly. And as others have said, they lost twice at home all season.

Massive strides forward from a team that's learning

It's our first game so I wont be critical about anyone even though you could. What I saw was a performance full of promise and a style that with a couple of new additions and a bit of tweaking could do really well this season or at least better than last and enjoyable to watch. I thought Maddison and Bissouma were outstanding and will be immense for us this season. I think the way Bissouma is playing just shows what a stubborn and overated manager Conte was in not playing him.

Would love to see if Ange can find a way to incorporate Lo Celso into the same team as Maddison. He was probably our best player in pre season. Is technically adept. Perfect for this system. Surely there is a spot on the field that he can fit into. Why not both him and JM in the midfield?

Thought they looked good on the ball except for when we got to the final third, less good off it. Players still not sure where they should be positioned and a little bit nervous.

Having that extra time on the training ground is going to be vital this season, but promising signs. Green shoots, as they say (y)

Wouldn’t be surprised to see them both start at home where we should be even more attacking than we were today

Caught some of the match on my honeymoon in split, Croatia ♥️

My overreactions:
- Son should be tried at ST until we get someone else there. Think it's going to be a worry all season long, hope I'm wrong.
- Sanchez is fine as 3rd/4th choice. Would love to get a Schurrs type to have him as 3rd choice for both sides.
- GLC didn't feature?
- Maddison was class
- Emerson was good

Early days but so encouraged about today - midfield 3 were excellent, love Udogie and great how he used his power to win that duel with their forward towards the end.
VDV is a monster and will only get better and Vicario who I must admit scared the crap out of me pre season definitely had something about him and experience will settle him down.
Special mention to Sanchez who came on and put a really good shift in- it takes character to come back after that awful day when the bellends in our stadium booed him.
Now just need to sort that front 3 out and we might have a pretty good season……

So we apparently filled out the wrong slip with Romero sub as it should have been a concussion sub. This from Ally Gold piece from press conference

What happened with Cristian Romero and how is he?

He got a head knock and it was pretty clear. The medical team were monitoring him as he progressed from there and then he scored with his head. They were pretty sure we needed for his own benefit to get him off and obviously what we know about head injuries, for me it is not even an issue. We will always err on the side of caution.

Cristian, the player is not the one you listen to in those situation because he doesn't know what is going either, so I thought it was pretty clear what we had to do. Disappointed that we apparently filled out the wrong slip and it was not a concussion sub. In this day and age where what we know about head injuries, if we are going to worry about what form we fill out, I thought it was pretty clear what happened but hopefully he'll be okay.
