This is the problem with the new discipline initiative. Allows referees ego to take over and make the game all about them. The best refs allow the focus to be on the game.
Absolutely guaranteed that won’t be applied in the later game today

Chaotic first half as I kind of expected seeing as we're a basically a whole new team playing a whole new way.

But the game was spoiled by an absolutely ridiculous decision by VAR to get involved in an incident that was NEVER a "clear and obvious error". It was incidental contact. The ref got right first time - then changed his decision and, humiliated, proceeded to take it out on Spurs for the next 30 minutes. Absolutely horrendous officiating and I hope Ange gets stuck in.

We lost our way a bit after that but came back strongly. Great goal by Emerson who was getting the ususal stick from the usual boo boys inhere but its water off a duck's back to the great man. Sanchez was very good too. Confidence player.

The worry is Richarlison. He's playing against a back 3 with no space but he's just not moving enough and when he does get it his touch is heavy. Skipp can't get into the game at all but at least he's constantly moving.

They are very very good on the break.

VdV has looked good, he is literally a cross between Jan and Toby. Very unlucky with the goal. Everything is going through Bissouma. I’d like to see LoCelso and Solomon on, more vision and more pace.

We’re not seeing the free flowing pre season shots on goal, but most of those numbers came with LoCelso and Solomon, plus Perisic, on the pitch. Not Deki and Son.

Exciting game, Royal is getting skinned by Henry repeatedly though, need to do something about that side of the pitch.

Not sure Skipp is adding much at the moment. Be interesting to get Lo Celso on the pitch.

Richy is a bit of a worry, need a forward to compete with him.
Completely forgot about GLC it's been that long since he played a league game. Ange is still experimenting here so could be a shout.

I like the aggression we are showing. Obviously some er....growing pains.....in defense.

Bissouma looks a monster, Madders working his socks off. Can't say having Skipp play so far forward is putting him or the team in the best position to succeed.

Given how Brentford are playing and the skillsets of the players i would like to see Royal and Udogie stay wide and Sonny and Kulu drift inside.

So many people pissing themselves because it's not perfect on day one, christ. It was always going to take time for such an intensive style of play to become second nature to the players, particularly after the stodgy, plodding style we played with last season.

This system seems to need a really good sweeper keeper given the high line and space behind it. I can't help but feel David Raya would have been a much better choice than Vicario if this is how we're going to play

Richarlison looks totally lost up there. Has no idea how to get himself into the game.

We are so obviously going to need to buy a goal threat before the window closes.

I'm wondering if Skipp's tendency to almost always take the short, safe passing option is a hangover from Conte. I really hope it gets coached out of him.

Skipp had repellent 🧲 on his boots today, some dodgy touches, big dav the same.

Id like to see Lo Celso on for skipp and Solomon on for Kulu mabye also put son up top and richy off and Perisic on at LW those changes throughout the 2nd half where needed.

People need to realize that bad defending is not OK in any circumstances I don’t care how many goals we score. We are so open and that is a horrible way to win matches
some of the opportunities that Spurs conceded didn't happen solely because of the tactical arrangement. sure, a more defensive and traditional predisposition on the pitch could have helped erase them but we can't keep babysitting the absolute ineptitude of some players. Emerson has been caught out of position multiple times now. the second goal is an abomination. Udogie does not react with the needed assertiveness on the diagonal ball that precedes the Son foul for the penalty. even on the play in which Romero collided with Mbeumo, both center backs had time to attack the ball but instead let it bounce and it becomes a contested header inside the penalty area.

players need to step the fuck up, regardless of the system. too many sub standard approaches on trivial plays.

That was pretty intense. Pitch seems really sticky which isn't helping, but feel we need to move the ball a bit quicker.

Great strike from Emerson though, and what a ball in from Maddison for the first! Tough game, as we knew it would be.
I think Brentford have watered it, let it grow or both knowing how we play.

Players look a bit nervous and the shape isnt completely right so far. Also massively missing a proper CF here as Richarlison just not doing anything atm.

We need to attack quicker as they keep regaining their shape before we can create anything.
Agree. It’s been a really enjoyable half but it’s certainly disjointed.

Every through ball by them appears to create a chance.

Richarlison has been anonymous and Son and Kulusevski out wide have been ineffective.

We have a strong bench. Interesting to see how Ange uses it.
