Yeah he'd definitely be one of my top picks for captain.

A clearly articulate/intelligent guy, who others would certainly respect.

I was fairly certain Ange was going to go for Son as captain but after his comments today think there's an outside chance he goes for Maddison.

Sorry to ask but what did he say?

Personally, I don't think Son is captain material so I'd probably plump for Madds or Biss.
It's going to be interesting to see who Ange goes for and I wouldn't be surprised if it's one of the new(ish) lads.

Actually reading it again I take it back and think he's defo going Son.

Have you decided on your captain yet?

Yeah I have mate [decided]. I’m not telling you. (Laughs)

We’ll go through that process tomorrow. Knowing that Harry wasn’t going to be here, it was something I had on my radar. I’m not a massive one for having an outstanding captain. Leadership is very transferrable through the group. Your youngest player can show leadership skills. It’s about creating a culture and environment that’s driven by the players.

The people you have, have to drive that, and that’s been part of my brief here. I’ve observed the players and how they interact, and the environment they’ve set for themselves and which players seem to take the lead in that. I’ll go through the formalities of that probably tomorrow.

Is Sonny a strong candidate?

It’s not like a leadership poll. I’m not having votes or anything, but there are some players here who have already contributed outstandingly to this club. It’s not just about experience, or playing ability, it’s more about the person they are, and how they’re going to represent us as a club and the playing group.

I’m really comfortable with the group we have. We’ll get a strong leader out of it and hopefully some lieutenants alongside him.

He ticks a lot of boxes. Just unsure he'd give the captaincy to a brand new signing as it might but a few noses out of joint.
To be honest, if those noses belong to the old guard like Dier and Davies...I'm all for putting them out of joint.
We're rebuilding now, the final piece has gone with Kane so we need a whole new outlook, formed in our new managers style.
Bring on the new style and new faces.

I can't really see any option besides Maddison, if I'm honest. Surely it has to be someone who is going to start, so I can't see who else it could be. Perisic? But is he a starter? Dier probably isn't. And Cuti just strikes me as too much of a hothead.

Yeah it is interesting how the entire "leadership committee" is basically gone in one fell swoop.

Kane, Lloris and (likely) PEH off with Dier 4th choice at best. Skipp is the one most likely to get minutes funnily enough

Captaining someone like Maddison would be a lot less controversial given the circumstances and the huge upheaval at the club.

My money is still on Son though.

Interesting choices of players...

Sonny will likely start. Richarlison is likely to start. Kulusevski is likely to start. Bissouma is likely to start. Udogie is likely to start. Royal is likely to start.

And Lo Celso has really impressed this pre-season. I could see some rotation and certainly substitutes among the CMs with Skippy, Sarr, Lo Celso and Maddison (and even Bentancur when he is healthy.)

I accept and understand your concerns but with Harry gone it really is a new broom as far as I’m concerned.
Maddison is very articulate, is a top hardworking player, is prepared to say it as it is and has captained Leicester.
He screams “leader” to me but Ange is the man and who ever he chooses is fine by me. 😊

I dont think Davies nose would be out of joint. Dosnt seem to have that kind of ego. He's always given his best and been a model pro for us. Deserves more respect really

You're probably right there, to be fair.
I only mentioned him as being one of the last of the old guard really, I think pretty much everyone will accept whoever Ange chooses to lead the side.

Excited to see him play, I’ve actually met him a few times working in a bar he often used to go to in Nottingham. Very friendly and nice guy.

Do seem to have ‘step up’ characters in players like him so hope we see that tomorrow and going forward.
