If we are buying & loaning, we better loan him to a club in Europe or UK. No point loaning him back to Roasario.
I don't mind loaning him back there given that their season isn't finished, so if it helps smooth over the deal and all that I've no issues. Not like he was coming in to start for us anytime soon

I've seen a few accounts who are followers of South American football who think those quotes are totally made up. Messi bigging up a Rosario Central player wouldn't go down too well the other side of the city with the Newells fans.
I'd say Messi is such an icon in Argentina he is above local rivalries these days.

quotes could be made up though, half the bollocks on the internet is.

Tim can give juicy some great details on how a player is doing in S.American leagues, back story etc...but his predictions of how they would perform in future in PL or Europe is questionable. I remember him saying Paulinho to be world class potential, next Gerrard or Lampard. In some sense, Paulinho did score 8 goals in his first season from CM but he has been largely failure with us.

So, I think Tim has also realised that and toned down and keeping his assessment grounded nowadays.
I noticed that he was at pains to downplay his opinion!

I think you're right, he was making comparisons to previous strikers to make the jump from Argentina to England rather than making too much of a judgment on Veliz individually.

I think we should view him as a Martinelli signing Arse did. Martinelli showed promise in first season but was not effective or scoring in abundance. 2nd season - different player altogether

He will take atleast a year to develop IMO

We need to be signing these type of players. Look at Brighton! Can you imagine if we scouted Enciso and Caicedo for example. The fact we were looking at Roque was the best thing I’d heard in years.

This is all Paratici’s influence by the way. Lots of Italian clubs have been looking at him.

Without wanting to derail the thread.....who is Roque?

Yepp this window has Paratici setup all over it. except Solomon and the handling of Kane where we all know that Levy is the one who want to make a buck.

Think it was already shared but there's a running list of the top 200 young players, found here.

Veliz ranks 10th overall, and 5th on the list for CFs. What's more interesting than me just resharing a link is that if you look at the list of CFs we have been pretty involved.

1. Marcos Leonardo - not much info on him from my PoV
2. Vitor Roque - Journos and his agent said we were trying for him before he agreed with Barca
3. Endrick Felipe - Agreed with Real Madrid
4. Youssoufa Moukoko - We were linked by journos like Jacobs and others that we were going to swoop if he didn't renew with BVB
5. Alejo Veliz
6. Benjamin Sesko - Just moved from RB Salzburg to Leipzig. Articles in the past saying we're scouting him.
7. Mathys Tel - Obviously strong links with a swap deal of sorts with Kane
8. Evan Ferguson - Many on here think he's the ideal Kane replacement. Some links that we're interested.

So as you can see, we were (obviously) looking for a young CF and the Veliz deal seems to be the perfect blend of hype and value.
i think you've uncovered our scouting department. It's just levy and this website.

Edit, cool that dane scarlett is on there

Sounds like Leonardo is going to Roma.

He was one of my picks and I think he'd fit great in a Postecoglou system. Not much of a build-up player but has that unrelenting desire to score and get into scoring positions. Excellent movement too. The issue is his finishing can be a bit scruffy, he still gets it in by hook or crook but isn't as polished a finisher as Vitor Roque/Endrick.

Veliz looks a bit more emphatic in this respect, especially from distance and headers

Interesting that following the Kane meeting on Monday there's been sudden movement on this + VDV within a matter of days.

Personally think the Kane deal is done and we're beginning to make our moves elsewhere. It seems too coincidental.

Or that it was released the day after the Trust and the fan base announced big protests.

£13m fee due to release clause in his contract.

Good price for a talented player.

If he were in Europe already it would be £40m+.
If he were in England, he would be the equivalent of Evan Ferguson and the club would be asking over 70M. Silly hypothetical but I agree with you that this is a great price for a top prospect.

Report’s coming out now that he might come straight away but it’s Rosario pushing for a loan back

I saw a few links of that as well. That would be very interesting with the Kane story. I personally (selfishly speaking) like the idea of him coming straight away IF Kane is all but gone. He's technically in mid-season form and if you can have him hit the ground running and get a few early goals in him you never know. Obviously he would be under Richarlison, but still!

If Kane is leaving then I'd bring him straight in as cover for Richy up front. Anybody else getting a sense this actually might be what is about to happen?

Well it’s pretty obvious any loan to Rosario would just be to get the deal done. Even if we didn’t have space for him straight away, can’t imagine it would be our choice of loan destination.
