We should do these deals regardless of Kane leaving or not
I think we have been as well though. Gil, Sarr, Udogie and now it seems Phillips and Veliz. We got Lankshear for the academy too. We've picked this end up the last few years. The more we sign the more will make it as you know a percentage won't turn out good. Getting back to signing young talent and a manager who will coach and give them a chance too. This is the way.

Think it was already shared but there's a running list of the top 200 young players, found here.

Veliz ranks 10th overall, and 5th on the list for CFs. What's more interesting than me just resharing a link is that if you look at the list of CFs we have been pretty involved.

1. Marcos Leonardo - not much info on him from my PoV
2. Vitor Roque - Journos and his agent said we were trying for him before he agreed with Barca
3. Endrick Felipe - Agreed with Real Madrid
4. Youssoufa Moukoko - We were linked by journos like Jacobs and others that we were going to swoop if he didn't renew with BVB
5. Alejo Veliz
6. Benjamin Sesko - Just moved from RB Salzburg to Leipzig. Articles in the past saying we're scouting him.
7. Mathys Tel - Obviously strong links with a swap deal of sorts with Kane
8. Evan Ferguson - Many on here think he's the ideal Kane replacement. Some links that we're interested.

So as you can see, we were (obviously) looking for a young CF and the Veliz deal seems to be the perfect blend of hype and value.

Dane 20th on CF list too. (y)

Interesting that Veliz is rated higher than both Tel and Ferguson, two players who everyone on here would seemingly snap your arm off for.

Just caught Tim Vickery on SSN, he's their South American expert (and a Spurs fan).

He started by offering a word of caution; he's seen a number of strikers thrive in Argentina but struggle in the Premier League so he has concerns when comparing Veliz to those named (about half a dozen).

He also says Veliz is physically strong for his age and his main strength is aerial ability and has scored a number of headed goals. Given quite a few have observed how low our crossing has been in pre-season, this seems odd.

The point he made (which has been touched on above) is how cheap players are when bought directly. Were he to move to, say, Portugal and succeed, his value will probably treble within months.

Tim can give juicy some great details on how a player is doing in S.American leagues, back story etc...but his predictions of how they would perform in future in PL or Europe is questionable. I remember him saying Paulinho to be world class potential, next Gerrard or Lampard. In some sense, Paulinho did score 8 goals in his first season from CM but he has been largely failure with us.

So, I think Tim has also realised that and toned down and keeping his assessment grounded nowadays.

I must say I can completely understand why we would go for someone like Véliz over Beltrán as he is 3 years younger but I’m a little surprised we aren’t going for Leonardo. Whilst I like the look of Véliz and I think he has a lot of potential Marcos seems more well rounded and maybe better suited to the league. Don’t get me wrong, I’d be very happy with Véliz but at one year older and after clearly wanting Roque I’m a little surprised. Maybe Leonardo was significantly more price wise, if Véliz is only £11 mil one can understand why we are jumping on it.

If Messi says he plays like Suarez used to, that means more to me than some pundit's opinion.

I wouldn’t listen to him too much tbh, his assessments are often wildly inaccurate. Furthermore this particular opinion of him seems to be entirely based on his performances for the U20’s and he doesn’t give any real mention of his ability and performances at club level aside from criticising the league as whole.

I can see this guy as our alvarez over the next few seasons, coming in when Richi needs a rest/injured and getting time even though not a first 11 player. Looks like a good deal at that price and you would expect to be able to recoup that in 2-3 years even if he's not showing the promise to take the no9 shirt long term. Just do this sort of deal and the one with the lad from blackburn, worth the speculation then spend the rest of the HK money on Tapsoba and VDV. Effectively all 4 in for roughly the money Bayern give us for Kane, all in that is good business (as much as i want Kane to stay forever)

If we are buying & loaning, we better loan him to a club in Europe or UK. No point loaning him back to Roasario.

I think the best way to go is to sign a good number of players like this and loan them to stronger leagues. Better if you can keep them in England. See how they develop at that level before bringing them back and seeing how they integrate with the squad. So he may or may not make it but if you have several young forwards out on loan one is bound to impress.

The deal is that we loan him back to Rosario until the end of the Argentinean season (November, I believe). After that who knows

I've seen a few accounts who are followers of South American football who think those quotes are totally made up. Messi bigging up a Rosario Central player wouldn't go down too well the other side of the city with the Newells fans.
