Tel in an interview today: "I want to stay here forever"
A year ago, Mathys Tel came to Bayern Munich as a 17-year-old for a whopping 28 million euros. It should only have been the beginning, because the Frenchman still has a lot planned, as he explains in the kicker interview.
Georg Holzner reports on Bayern's trip to Asia from Singapore
In his first season, Mathys Tel didn't play regularly, but always made a good, refreshing impression on his assignments. Now the striker wants to attack again. He totally identifies with FC Bayern - and after just a year gave his first interview in German.
How do you sum up your first year at FC Bayern, Mr. Tel?
The first season was good for me because I learned a lot. That was very important for my self-confidence. I'm still young and have to work, study, every day.
I would love to stay in Munich again this season.
You just missed out on Robert Lewandowski last summer. In this transfer period, another new striker should come - from Bayern's point of view, in the best case Harry Kane. What does that mean for you and your sporting future?
Every player, even a new striker, is important for Bayern. We have to win - for the fans, for the club. It doesn't matter who comes: We're a team here and we have to win together. I like pressure, I like competition. That is not a problem for me. I know what I want, I know what I can do.
Coach Thomas Tuchel recently praised you, but also said that at the end of the transfer period we might sit down again and talk about the future. Would you consider a loan?
The talks with the coach are good. I would love to stay in Munich again this season. We will discuss together what is best for my development. FC Bayern is my big dream. I work every day to get better. Work, work, work. I only have FC Bayern in mind.
A few French players - including Bixente Lizarazu, Willy Sagnol, Franck Ribery - have found their fortune at FC Bayern and have become club legends in Munich. Is something like that still conceivable in the young generation of players you belong to? Is that a goal?
Yes, of course. It's a dream, FC Bayern has become my home. I want to stay here forever.
