If Dier stays then we have him and Romero who we want and that leaves us shipping out Tanganga and Sanchez both of whom should be easy to sell providing were asking sensible prices for.

If we get this guy as our big signing I'd much prefer a younger homegrown option than Lenglet.

Tbh if getting lenglet free was the difference between tapsoba or getting 2 cheaper worse options I’m all aboard tapsoba. We have no European football yes injuries will happen but I just want a very strong starting 11. Then next season go for another strong younger cb with champs league

I'm happy with just one cb tbh.

Tapsoba, Romero, Dier, Tanganga and then youth players. Why not
Ange needs CBs who can play from the back, be comfortable with the ball in possession against the press and be able to pass the ball forward. Dier and Tanganga can't do it plus Dier lacks agility for high line. Romero and Tapsoba won't be able to start every game with injuries/suspensions and we will drop valuable points if we don't get proper backups. It's important to buy players that fit the system that Ange is trying to implement. It's the new way and now GK and CBs need to be good at passing (inverted FBs or WBs too). Dier or Tanganga randomly doing long balls forward would break the system.

Sky reporting Laporta stating that Lenglet to become permanent.

Disappointed if true. Considering the good work already done in a short space of time and very little money spent.

I see very little reason to keep him on.

Sky are effectively an aggregator that gets things wrong.

Laporta said..."I think we will reach an agreement", now in the fullness of time we might if other options aren't possible.

I don't think Dier and Tanganga are as bad almost all here think. Alfie Dorrington is highly rated, and we need to make sure we have pathways for young players.

When you have more of the ball, play higher up the pitch, and have more passing options, I think all of our current defenders will actually look better.

If we're gonna buy two centre backs I don't want it to be one and Lenglet, there's no point.

With the new offside rules, no team should be playing a high line. It’s suicidal.

Off-side law notwithstanding, you can't play a high press effectively, unless you play a high defensive line.

The entire point is to keep the team compact to cut off passing - if you press high, but drop the defenders, teams will just pass around the press in the middle of the pitch.

That offside rule is awful. Got to feel for defenders if it's implemented. Not a hope. 😕

Thought they could have just changed it to feet position to stop the stupid leaning/shoulder offsides etc... 🤷🏼‍♂️

Yeah the Wenger thing looks like too much of an overcorrection to me. Could fundamentally change the game for the worse and mean teams sit a lot deeper since the offside trap will be all but dead as a concept. Fast players would become borderline unplayable vs a high line.

Feet position seems like a healthy compromise - gives the attacker an advantage in most situations but not an especially big one.
