His post match interview was about as inspiring and interesting as that game today

I think it was obvious he was pissed off but managed to reign it in. We’ve all been annoyed in the past at him being too emotional and saying things he shouldn’t. I don’t think we can have it both ways. I quite liked him being calm.

No need to get carried away.

Either way.

Two months ago when we lost 4 in 5 league games and knocked out of the FA Cup by a Championship team it did not mean he was a bad appointment.

Two weeks ago when we climbed into 4th place and started racking up goals, got three points at the league leaders and went on a good streak it did not mean he would lead us to the title next season.

This has been a middling half-season with him in charge where in patches we look brilliant and in other patches totally devoid of any clue. Consistency is what Conte is all about and you can only really judge that when he gets to manage a full season from the start.

Reminder that Klopp came in same time mid season and finished 7th. With backing got 4th in his first full season.

Assuming there is no drama in the summer, we will finish with more points next season than we will this.

No. Sack Conte, sack Paratici, sack the next manager after 4 months. Whine and moan. Rinse and repeat.

This club and this squad in particular have not turned up in so many must win games over the years that my first thought is not to blame the manager who hasn't even had a summer window.

I'm starting to worry theres possible truth in the psg stuff, the drop off in the last two performances has been staggering.
Is it more likely that it's because it's Tottenham which is a by word for consistent failure and abject performances no matter what is at stake ?

To be fair he's only a few months in.

He's inherited a frankenstein squad with systematic issues.

Impossible to cure that without a pre season and a couple transfer windows.

Klopps Liverpool were bang average for a fair while!
The problem is that Conte has never been at a club more than 2.5 years and even that was across 2 stints. The longest has been 2 years in a single stint.

So let's say we back him in the summer window, the odds are that he wouldn't be here much longer than that season and we could, yet again, end up with a squad that doesn't suit the next manager.

The fact that our youth teams haven't changed to the same formation, suggests that we don't view this formation as a long term change.

....and with key components for his system.

We lack;
WBs who are effective in the final third. Conte's WBs almost behave like goal poachers and drop into the half spaces.

A LCB who can carry the ball forward, beat the press and pick out passes.

Barella-type midfielders. When the midfield 2 aren't working, Conte needs to go back to 3 in midfield and that requires an attacking mid, problem is we don't have one. Winks coming on would change nothing as we'd still have 3 midfielders behind the ball, the opposition can deal with that easily.

By having more effective WBs, if we struggled centrally we could switch out one of the front 3 and go 3-5-2. This poses a different problem for the opposition.

Support attackers. Lucas is completely ineffective in Conte's system and I think Bergwijn can only play centrally. Well, Conte at least doesn't rate him enough.

Additionally, we need players who play with more urgency. Conte's teams tend to sit deeper in approach but still build from the back. The last 2 games have been way slower than what Conte requires.

Well Inzaghi is much more "on the front foot" than Conte and he's not having issues with the squad he inherited.

The priority for me has to be 'intent' give Conte the tools, within reason, and show him we are serious so that he doesn't get despondent.

He left Juve cause they were refusing to push further so he could win the CL and league, he wanted total dominance and wanted bigger depth but Juve weren't prepared to go as far.

He left Chelsea cause they were buying players he didn't want and siding with the likes of Costa.

He left Inter cause they wanted to sell Lukaku and co to ease debts.

We are actually in a great position here. Everyone knows this squad needs vast improvement and investment. There's no reason why the club can't do it either.

Give him what he needs this summer and get him tied to a 2 year extension.

If he falls short of winning titles but comes close, double down and get him more players he needs.

That's the way to keep him at a club.

If he ends up winning us a title in 2 years, I think most would be sad to see him go but we would all be feeling great cause he will have finally got that monkey off our backs and given us something to really celebrate. That in turn would elevate the club. We could then have the pick of available coaches.

We started 5 players today that weren't with us last season. I get we need upgrades but there is enough quality in that squad to put up a shot on target in 3 hours of football.

His insistence on these shit wingbacks is going to cost us top 4.

Inzaghi's side aren't that different, yes more on the front foot but still the same formation and similar style.

If Chelsea and Juve couldn't bring the players in to keep him happy, what makes you think we can?

This isn't his squad, he has not had a preseason with this team, so until the start of the next season (hoping he is still here) he has a free run. The issue I have is that you can see the system doesn't work that well, because the players are shit, so why is he being so stubborn and tactically rigid? Especially in games like today when we know how they are going to set up. What is wrong with giving Lucas or Bergwijn the RWB spot? Yes they are limited, but at least they can play better than Royal.

I'm not saying he isn't faultless but until you buy better players it doesn't matter who the manager is you will keep throwing away important games.
