That's not the end of that. It's an offensive term that's potentially criminal. So it's definitely not the end of it. Why should people have to listen to it? They don't have to, literally, by law.

All it does is Mark our fanbase out as a bit twattish.

But no-one can answer this question: why dig your heels in?
I'm digging my heels in because I want as many people as possible to associate with us in a positive way. Over the last five years the UK has had a vast increase in antisemitism and it's got nothing to do with Spurs fans and I'm fed up with useful idiots thinking this will somehow solve any problems. It won't.

I'll keep saying this because some of you seem unable to read, Yid is not a term that offends us. Yid isn't even used to try and offend us. You lot using Jew without a modifier makes us uneasy and with a modifier, like dirty Jew really offends us. Not standing up to the Mob that infested the Labour party offends us. Implying we're not British or over represented in business or public life offends us. 60,000 Spurs fans chanting Yid does not remotely offend the overwhelming majority of us, Spurs fans or not.

Wow. This is some take.

And by ‘some take’, I mean nonsense.
Whether you think it's nonsense is irrelevant because it's true. If you think us continuing to chant the y-word somehow counters other fans abusing us you are delusional. They'll do it regardless. And at the same time you lot are joining in by abusing our own fans. Just make the choice to stop it. It's not a big deal.

I'll sing it today but we do need more inclusive songs just for atmosphere if nothing else. Oh when the Spurs is one of the few chants that really makes the atmosphere great because more people join in. If only half chant yid songs its just not the same. The Antonio chants are good now. We just need more songs that everyone joins in with. We miss the Dembele chant and now the Alli one.

"You lot"?

Look, when you say it is not a term "that offends us" you mean you. You do not speak for everybody. Not even close. We know that from the survey. I known that anyway. So start listening to other people. This is not about what you, personally, want however much you want to bulldoze your opinion.

You lot being gentiles, non Jews, goyim... pick one.

I do not claim to speak for my community but my voice echos the general sentiment of the community as I am much more involved in it and am much more knowledgable of it than either you or the club. I wonder, would you so quickly and easily dismiss the voices and experiences of Afro Caribbean or Bangladeshi voices (for example) as you do with engaged Jewish fans of the club?

With regards to the survey, I find it curious that the club can manage to send me all the usual spam and begging letters asking me to pay for corporate hospitality, matchday sponsorship or to buy some shitty merch but my Yid survey email seemingly didn’t get through. A more conspiratorial mind may think it’s because the results were predetermined.

As a Jew I can say I’ve never had Y thrown at me in my entire life. I’ve also never had a friend ever mention it. Until the last decade of heightened political correctness it never ever crossed my mind as something offensive. In fact I’d always considered the term Yiddish and words that were Yiddish as something quite charming. The sheer fact we have a Jewish chairman for 20 years and even now we aren’t at a point where the club has actually banned it probably tells you something. Y is a word used by Jews that was hijacked by some. BUT it is a word the Jews used about themselves. So what happens if people start chanting “Jews” ironically I’d find that more offensive than Y. It’s all about context and how it’s used. Every Spurs fan knows it’s chanted as a badge of honour support and togetherness.

Over the past fortnight we've had quite a few people request removal of the word 'yid' from their user names.
The first time I ever heard the word Yid was in the 80s and I thought our fans were chanting yeast and joined in chanting yeast.

As a spurs fan I've never associated it with anything other than by spurs.

Does anyone on this forum read my user name and find it offensive?

I do, since no one ever appointed you as the yido number 1, and I don't think you even did anything to earn that title.

David Badiell is a moron for not realising we (football fans) are morons. (Most of us) fans are normal sensible people but when it comes to football we are a tribe, family whatever collective noun you use to describe it. For well known reasons we've identified ourselves as Yids/The Yids and are now being asked to no longer identify as such.

The problem is that David was never the person to head that movement, what did he fucking think would happen - I David Badiell one of the best known Chelsea fans am going to go on a crusade to stop Spurs fans from identifying as Yids. He wrote a fabulous book and eloquently and articulately explains anti-semitism. However, he should have found someone within the club or outside football to lead the campaign to stop the use of the word at Tottenham.

BTW I think we absoultley need to stop. It just annoys me that David hadn't the sense or the humility to realise he wasn't the person to deliver the message.

I've never looked at him and thought "oh there's David Badiell, he's Jewish." I've often looked at him and thought "oh there's David Badiell, he's a ****."

I thought there was a very noticeable drop off, certainly inside the ground of it being used yesterday, few attempts to get it going in South and hardly any joining in compared to normal.

might be down to people just pissed off with match, but I also think clubs stance will change many POV.
