I think what we’re seeing is the product of bad choices. Wrong guy for the wrong job, obviously. We see it all the time with player selection, square pegs round holes etc, but that’s what Nuno, and José, felt like at our club.
Both have been known for their brand of football, which is completely different to what we want, and we’re promised. But they have convinced Levy that they can play that style too.
Therefore, what we get is this bad mixture of trying to all out attack (and getting it soo wrong) or all out defence and boring football. There is no balance in what they do, and we’re also seeing no balance in the players selected. They do not know how to get a team to defend, and at the same time be creative and attacking.
If you look back at some of Poch’s finest games, he had a very good balance of it all. Dier sitting in midfield, and would drop in to defence when needed making a back 5. Rose and Walker giving us width and pace, front three (Dele the runner, Kane-target, Eriksen-the passer and creator) all quite narrow. Dembele also allowed others to get on with stuff as he was so strong both winning the ball, and then beating the press and releasing it. And when Wanyama joined, that allowed Son to come in too.
I think what we really need is a creative passer, no idea who. A strong midfielder, Kessie maybe? And a commanding CB.

Kane may be best to go, and replaced with a striker who stays in the box. Moura also, I would let go, and try to find that creative guy. Winks doesn’t fit anywhere. Each year we talk about squad balance, but we never fully address it.

Largely agree, but with the bolded bit, do you think you'd play your best football if you had upwards of 50,000 people moaning and groaning at every misplaced pass?

But it wasn’t always like that was it. The groans weren’t always there but the passes were still misplaced, it’s no worse with the groans - just more noticeable. These are the same players who have been misplacing passes for three seasons in a row, groans or no groans they will misplace passes on Sunday.

It does seem that way. I still hope he turns it around but defeat vs Villa with another poor performance will see the fat lady plug in the mic.

AS IOMLS said, Arteta was favourite for the sack 3 weeks ago and Arsenal were being ridiculed left right and centre. Now he's the new incarnarion of Wenger and is a top manager.

Ignoring the hyperbole in the press though, arsenal are still in trouble. They scraped two 1-0 wins against bottom half teams and had they lost to us on Sunday people would still be talking about arteta as a fraud.

They will finish 7-10th which is simply not good enough and in reality arteta should probably leave in the summer one way or another.

I’m a relatively mild-mannered person and I’ve been through lots of highs and lows in my 60 years watching Tottenham. Interestingly, every time the camera panned to him on the touchline I found myself gesticulating crudely and saying some uncharacteristically unpleasant things. I just dislike the man and I’m angry that he’s our head coach. I’m not going to get into the blame game but I just want him out of my football club.

I can understand that. I don't dislike the guy or blame him for taking the job and I don't think that a simple change in head coach will address the underlying issues but the fans are getting no crumb of comfort whatsoever from what's happening on the pitch.

What I don’t understand is, why did Levy appoint a DOF who wants defensive football after saying we needed to go back to our DNA. Aside from that, Fabs only previous managerial appointment was an unmitigated disaster. Levy should have made it abundantly clear to whoever we brought in as DOF that he wanted us to be an attacking team.
Because of his ability to attract the best young talent and his knowledge of players contract situations. We can't spend like Chelsea or City and we are in the Conference league, the fact he managed to bring in Romero and Gil is extremely impressive considering their standing as two of the hottest prospects in Europe, compared to ours.

I also think it's clear Fab isn't about all out defensive football either, he's just more pragmatic in his philosophy than most on here would like for our DOF. If given a choice of two coaches he will go for the more defensively stable coach than one that was all out attack, even if the attacking coach had better credentials so to speak.

Seems harsh to dislike him but I do think he casts a “i have zero clue what i am doing here” figure on the touchline & it shows in the teams play.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it in my life on a football pitch at the top level.

Agreed. I'd seriously consider sacking Nuno for that first 5 mins of play alone. Absolutely awful "coaching". Shows he has no fucking clue what he's doing. And this is against a fairly weak Arsenal side. Amazing incompetence.

Nuno out for me, all day long.

As for who should replace him, someone with a basic understanding of how to coach a team would be a good start.

Prior to the Arsenal game I said no way he gets sacked anytime soon. Admittedly I did say a bad loss against Arsenal could change that and I must admit I didn’t see that level of performance coming against that lot. I didn’t expect to win but fucking hell that was bad.

They must be asking questions now you’d imagine. It’s hard on him but it’s a results business at the end of the day and if it’s true that he’s failed in winning the players over then he’s fighting a losing battle already and it’s worrying it’s got to this position so quickly in his time with us.

He’s got to be given the Villa game. The annoying thing is, I’d like to be able to say the result doesn’t matter and performance is key but if we lose to Villa and then drop further points to Burnley and Newcastle with a spanking against UTD we could actually be in the shit at the bottom of the table which is where our stats suggest we should be. Obviously at that point he has to go and I’d be tempted to do it if we see more of the same against Villa tbh.

Overall a massive cluster fuck. I personally don’t have any faith in our DoF either and would get rid of him to. What’s the point in hiring some DoF who’s at odds with the clubs philosophy. Another big fuck up by Levy there. Perhaps even worse than Nuno.

The thing is, he’s a nice guy. But it’s not enough. I don’t dislike him, just feel that he’s not right for the job. We are not even competing and that’s the worrying thing for me. We need to relieve him of his duties sooner rather than later.

Is he? I don't even find that point relevant. It's not redeeming for a football manager if he's nice. That's the type of thing you would say because he's not good at anything else.

I'd heard about this from footage from the whatsapp group, couldn't bring myself to watch it. Just have. It's one of the worst things I've ever seen.

My god.

"We have asked for a meeting with the club's executive board to discuss both the short and long-term strategic vision for the football club," said a THST statement.

"The club's board will be aware of the questions currently being asked by the Trust, by fans and by the media. This meeting is an opportunity for the decision makers to explain their plans to supporters.

"This explanation should include plans for this season and beyond, an explanation of how success will be measured and how the club's DNA will be regained."

I think the worse thing for me was the fact that even after 5 minutes of gaping holes in the midfield on Sunday he did not do anything about it. You can say he has been dealt a bad hand and I would agree but to sit and watch the non existent midfield and not react to it is inexcusable.

I also was willing to give him time and be patient but Sunday's tactics and then non reaction to what was happening right in front of his eyes was mindboggling.

What’s the clubs philosophy??? Serious question, I don’t have a clue what Levy wants. Best stadium and training facilities in the world but fill it with mediocre players and 12th choice manager??
Levy can claim he wants CL football but he isn’t acting like it. Last summer was as shit show and the blame lies higher up than Nuno

Yes he won in Scotland. How many teams win in Scotland
So what you're saying is that Alex Ferguson, who won three Scottish league titles, four Scottish Cups, the Scottish League Cup, the Cup Winners' Cup and the European Super Cup... with Aberdeen, was undeserving of time, but Nuno who has won a single Championship trophy should be given all the time in the world?
