Why do people think that there are no young, hungry, attacking managers that we could appoint?

Erik Ten Hag, Marcelo Gallardo, Graham Potter, Xavi Hernandez, Ruben Amorim, Thomas Frank, Steven Gerrard.

There's plenty out there.
Amorim is another pragmatic manager though, and Xavi is a big unknown

And the mighty Crystal Palace, Watford and Wolves.
I don't rate this Wolves team highly but currently they have 3rd most shots and 2nd least shots conceded

Thanks mate good points and that does give a bit of hope, Paratici does seem like a pretty switched on guy who knows his stuff which is why I was so shocked that if the rumours are right and he said for us to go for Nuno over Fonseca then he either didn’t understand the brief and importance about requiring the manager to play free flowing attacking football or (less likely) he’s clueless about football and genuinely believed that Nuno was capable of playing good football.

Paratici seemed to defend Nuno on his arrival by mentioning that he doesn’t just play 5 at the back and he has played 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 with his previous teams, well just because you don’t play 5atb doesn’t mean you play the style of play we want to see. Allardyce and Sean Dyche have played 4-3-3 and 4-4-2 it doesn’t mean we should hire them ?.

I believe that at Juve Paratici was there and oversaw the hires of the following :
Conte - fairly defensive and pragmatic but extremely successful
Allegri - fairly pragmatic but decent tactician and very successful
Sarri - good brand of football but didn’t quite work out
Pirlo - ex player didn’t work out

So to be fair the managers hired under his watch were extremely successful really aside from Pirlo but their style of play mostly wouldn’t be particularly suited at all to what the Spurs fans demand. But it does surprise me that he advocated Nuno and entertained the idea of Gattuso, neither a good fit for us at all. I’d like to put this down to him being thrown into the job straight after his Juve job ended and after trying for n.o1 target conte, Nuno was pretty much all that was left so Paratici thought it would be a safe option due to his PL experience.

Potter could be our equivalent of Conte when he was hired from Siena, a manager doing a great job in the division playing football that will suit our club and getting the most out of his resources.

Conte and Allegri weren’t Paratici‘s hires they were both hired by Motta. Sarri and Pirlo were the two managers Paratici hired.

Everyone keeps saying if we keep playing like that first 25 mins were be ok. We obv can’t keep up that level of pressing and burns them out, just like Neville kept saying how long can they keep this up. Unless you score a few in that period then we have to change back from the press.

Kane can’t press like that or Ndombele for long.

Nuno gonna hope we score early in this press period then revert to type and hold on for a win. Gonna be a long season till he gone

What’s Levy’s propaganda video going to be when Nuno goes? We lost sight of our DNA when refocusing after losing sight of our DNA, so this time we will go back to our DNA after losing sight of losing sight of our DNA? (Would love to see him trying to do that with a straight face) ?
Is there anyone left who will listen to another of those deceitful videos again.

Chelsea had 2 more days rest, Ndombele played one match this season, Son and Dier had some injury problems, Romero and Lo Celso were in quarantine

Nuno. But to be fair Kane doesn’t look interested and as much as he’s not that interested we’re not creating any chances for him so when he’s already pissed off and he’s then being played on the left of a front three and we can’t create a chance for our Him in 2 games I can understand why he’s fucked off. He’s on of best strikers in the league and we should build the team around creating chances for the CF so when he goes in the summer the incoming CF fits in the system and we create chances for him too.

In quarantine? they were meant to be training in Croatia and had 10 days off. They hadn’t played midweek. Chelsea had. We make too many excuses all the time we’re just not good enough, the players don’t have the right mentality to win.
Maybe the best chance is now the ECL to get into Europa league. Although who would back us against Jose Roma in a knockout match ??

Yes I can't see both being here next season

People massively overrate our squad. Just who can you name who has put consistently good performances together for a consistent time?

Kane, Son and maybe PEH at a push but even he is average on the ball alot of the time. He's a hard worker but he isn't top class. We are bang average.

Even now after 3 years of crap performances people still cling to the fact we are good.

There may be a bit more to get out of this side under a top manager, but frankly, I still think we are carrying far too many average players.

Dier, Sanchez, Doherty, Davies, Alli, Winks, Moura and Berg, none of them are good enough for various reasons. Dier has started the season ok enough but he still isn't that good. He is some way short of being a CL quality CB put it that way.

Totally agree. I agree Nuno set us poorly against Palace but first half yesterday we were good and matched Chelsea but just look at their squad compared to ours. It’s embarrassing.

I personally think that all of Doherty, Sanchez, Dier, Rodon, Davies, Sessegnon, Winks, Alli, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Bergwijn & Moura are below the standard of what we should be expecting. It wouldn’t bother me one bit if any of these players were sold.

The only two that are really world class are Son and Kane and Kane clearly doesn’t want to be here and is not putting in the effort.

That then leaves Gollini, Tanganga, Romero, Emerson, Reguilon, Skipp, PEH and Gil who are either brand new to to the team/league, a youngster or about the level required.

That means 10 players out of 25 that are (potentially) good enough. That’s a pretty sorry state of affairs.

Sorry mate but how can you say that? So because for example Brighton don’t have the riches and squads of the top teams they’re just going to roll over and get spanked every week? Nope, they have a manager who like Poch for us and like Rodgers has been for Leicester the last few seasons, is squeezing every inch of performance out of the squad.

Just because our squad isn’t quite where it needs to be doesn’t mean who our manager is doesn’t matter or have an effect, it absolutely does.

What you write & infer from it are completely opposite ?‍♂️ (n)

You say, "hey look at Potter at Brighton or Poch with us....look how they are getting best out of the squad..." - Yet , you conveniently forgetting same managers also struggled initially. Poch almost lost his job prior to the Stoke game middle of his first season. Potter finishing at 17th.

So, how is it fair to criticise Nuno after 5 games, when he has 9 points on board...having already played top2 title contenders already, with a squad affected by injuries and non-availability

You cant just say look at Potter & Poch and not give the same time to Nuno

Nuno has his best team and set up now to build on. If he radically changes it again then he obviously has the managerial yips and will be on a downward slope. I don't think arsenal are much to worry about, a positive result is an absolute requirement. I like Nuno as a bloke, it seems like the football gods are conspiring against him after a great start however.

Ossie Ardiles

“RIP Jimmy. Great player, great man. Very funny. Humble.

“Jimmy epitomises what Spurs is: ‘To dare is to do’ ... ‘When you come to meet the great goalscorer in heaven it matters not if you win or lose but how you played the game.’ My prayers and thoughts with his family and friends.”

This quote needs to be everywhere ion the walls at the ground

Only saw highlights so my opinion probably doesn't count for much, but I'm wondering why you wouldn't match up to Chelsea's formation. Giving them an overload in CM is surely asking for trouble and most likely caused us to run out of steam.

Might not be strictly for this thread, but fans really need to reset their ambitions and ideas where this current crop of player's should be. We are miles off the top 4, and have appointed a manager who will get the club into a position of 6th-10th. We will give the best teams in the league a game for a period of up to 45 minutes, until their coach makes a change, tactical or personnel, and thus go up to a level of play, this group of players or management cannot match.
We will also lose abjectively away from home to teams in the bottom 10, due to the manager not being good enough. Yes, I take into consideration that this happened laterly in the Poch reign, and also during Jose's time. That is down to the players we have as well. This can all be stemmed back to Poch either not being backed, or Poch deciding he didn't need new players back in 2018/2019. We should have strengthened then, we were in a magnificent place to really push on then, but not signing 2/3 to add to an impressive group of 12/14 players was our major undoing, and we are now left scrapping with the likes of Everton, West Ham nowadays.

I fear we are sliding back to the pre Harry Rednapp days. PEH will likely want out soon, Sonny even on a long deal will not be happy with midtable mediocracy. Kane is as good as gone. The last good thing Levy did was sign Poch. From there it has been blunder after blunder. Nuno is just the latest in his list of mistakes. I'm sure he will have the occasional good result but he isn't the man to get us back near the top 4. It really is shite watching the slow decline of what was a fantastic side.

The fella works hard and is likeable, but ability wise Hojbjerg is at best a slightly above average midfielder, where does he wants to go to? Everton?
