Weird how Sky are broadcasting the result. Tottenham lose 1-0 against….
Not just showing the result. It’s like they have some kind of agenda.

Not sure I get your point mate. GLC and Winks could play in a pub team and they should look better than they did tonight. Ditto some of the others, like Sess and Doherty. Just because they were playing in an XI that hadn’t played together before, I don’t see that as an excuse. If Dele and Skipp played instead I’d expect the same of them

Follow the convo and look at the post I quoted...

He said that these players wouldn't get onto the subs bench of our PL team. I said that the reason why these players looked shit is because they played in a mish mash team hence the reason why if you replaced Winks/GLC with Dele/Skipp you'd probably see the same performances.

Anyway my point is it's not that deep, they played crap - it doesn't mean they are crap which many are saying/implying.

Not a big fan of throwing a random group of players together for these games. Throw in a change of formation, five debuts and lots of fitness issues and it was never going to be pretty.

We should work on assembling a group of young fringe players and get them used to playing together. Maybe use the FA Trophy for that purpose and play the games at White Hart Lane; then use them as the core of the team against weaker cup opposition, reinforced with first team players as necessary, but not deadwood.

I'm not going to overreact about this game. For me it's the first competitive full game for the youngsters and new players. I also think we should have at least 3 first teamers in every game we play as they are the leaders to help guide the youngsters and fringe players. That leaves 8 players getting game time

TBH, I couldn't give a tuppenny fuck about this competition. It's a free hit for Nuno to assess fringe or youth players in a competitive setting, without it impacting our season.

If he's achieved anything tonight, it's that he'll have a better inkling about who's worth sticking with, and who isn't.

The game doesn't matter much, but we really need to shift the likes of ccv on. What are we doing, and what is he doing. Go play pro footy somewhere.

And the Lo Celso sliding doors moment with Fernandez will never go away unless someone lights a fire under GLC and the penny drops for him. Aside from the productivity of Fernandez, it's so impressive how he imposes a big personality on games. He did that from day one. Why do we end up with the too-cool-for-school guy that just looks happy to be here. GLC clearly has talent, but needs to step up way more and avoid being flakey like so many spurs players tend to be. It's getting to the stage where we'll consider selling before his stock gets too low. I hope he pulls his fucking finger out and starts running games

The performance mirrored the squad selection. Looked like 11 players thrown together at the last minute to fulfil a fixture nobody wanted. That said the senior players did themselves no favours with their performances.

Doherty, Davies, Winks and Carter-Vickers just need to go. They don't put in the level of performances needed at the club. The first three have had enough chances now and we don't need to see them in the shirt again. Carter-Vickers has never been at the required level and should have been released years ago.

Players seem to have poor vision, a poor touch on the ball, slow to react, passing it safe, unable to run with the ball - it was error after error from individuals. Very unprofessional performance. They diidnt help falling over everytime we went near them. Their RB, how long did it take him to take a throw, Poor all round. Disappointing.

Ive no problem going out of this cup before the group stage. mildly embarrassing Id admit but even if we won the cup would it be worth bragging about?

I said that the reason why these players looked shit is because they played in a mish mash team hence the reason why if you replaced Winks/GLC with Dele/Skipp you'd probably see the same performances.

This, for me.

We very clearly didn't send a team out there to win that match. There are players on the bench that a few reading here won't ever have heard of. If anyone is to blame (if anyone needs blaming, which I don't think that they do), it's Nuno for picking the squad and the team. But he is working under a remit to get use out of academy players and give them real match experience where he can, which he even spoke briefly about in pre-match comments (the youth playing in games where the result matters).

We've never been in a tournament better suited to at least try and play some of the kids and give them that experience. Even the experience of losing, when we need them to win. We've lost talented players recently because their routes to the first team are blocked. Cirkin only this past week. We even have a thread in Transfers about re-signing Noni Madueke, so I can absolutely understand why are trying to make a priority of this.

With that in mind I totally get the team that we sent out there, but the additional trade off to doing so is that it's going to hamper the entire team performance, and I think that there needs to be some perspective in that respect. We all saw last Sunday how important a well drilled team willing to go to the wall for each other is. Some players that looked good and played well against City could only do so because of the players around them also doing their part. This team was never going to be that, and while I also don't think that Harry Winks, for example, is probably good enough to play for our first 11 anymore, at least starting, there needs to be at least some level of acceptance that this was not set up for him to look up to first 11 standard.

For me the biggest disappointment over losing was starting CCV, because we're not even hopeful of a future for him here. He cost us the goal for one, and now looks injured which is going to jeopardise a sale. Should have started Paskotsi instead.

Edit: That and some of the passing was just weird, especially in the first half. Not just poorly executed passing, but passes into areas that just made no sense. Got better in the second.

I definitley dont want to get out of this cup here. Soon there will be an additional CL place for teams scoring points in Europe. Well here we can make a start.

I see the group stage as a great opportunity for the fringe and young players, but they obviously need to be surrounded by a bit quality. And we need to add quality the next 12 days. Thats very urgent.
