Was going to post this.

The BBC always bides its time before moving transfer stories out of the rumours section. They like to be a bit more sure of their facts. They don't have to sensationalise to sell. Seems they've done a bit of digging around and the story isn't quite as Sky and the print media are selling it. The BBC's angle is much more closely aligned to itk and rings far more true to me.

Kane is definitely unhappy with the team's decline and probably is casting envious glances elsewhere. Pretty sure that he has communicated it to Levy too. But he hasn't demanded to leave and isn't going to make a stink. It's just not his style.

What is the value to the club in holding on to Kane for “one more year” - particularly in a rebuilding year?

If it is really a choice between selling this summer or next, then Kane’s value will never be higher - even in a post-pandemic world.

How much higher though really?

We are currently in a depressed market which is affecting everyone not just us, there's less money going around. Next year will be different as we get back to some sort of normality so the likelihood is that next season despite him having two years left on his deal the difference in price won't be such a significant drop. Next year will be more of an open market with more clubs out of austerity therefore the potential of a bidding war which would increase his price.

More importantly the value to the club is worth more, forget the money for a second. Holding onto our best player albeit for a year sends out a strong message to the players you want to bring in and the players you want to keep as well that we are least trying to show some ambition.

What's more the new manager is going to come in and needs time to settle, taking the best player out the team and someone that the team has relied on so much is counter intuitive. At least if he's here for another year that gives the new manager time to settle and work with Levy and Hitchin to see who we can bring into the club and it gives the players a year of an easier transition.

There is absolutely nothong to gain from letting Kane go now.

So the season of ZERO signings wasn’t “deliberately allowing the team to decline”?

No. It wasn't.

It has been discussed so many times before. We don't really need to go over it again. Regardless of who was at fault, or to what degree, it certainly wasn't the intention to sign no players that season.

Leaking this would be completely out of character for Kane. It makes me wonder if this has all come from one of the prospective buyers. They know Kane won’t kick up a fuss, so they’ve decided to kick one up for him.

Even if Levy and Harry were to have a gentlemen's agreement, it would only mean we would sell for a reasonable offer. For us that probably means £175m.

Is anyone going to offer us that? Probably not.

So we accidentally failed to bid enough to sign players?

Apologies, I know it’s an old dead issue, and I actually kinda agree with you.

However, rest assured that, even if it wasn’t the intention at the outset, it was a very deliberate decision come the end of deadline day.

Makes it clear it’s his opinion but even so, like the beeb... 100% more credible than anything the illiterate bums at sky come out with.
Yea it's not gospel or anything but just reasoned.

My view is of course he would like to leave and play for a team with better chance of silverware but that's not going to happen this summer as can't see any team will pay what levy will rightly demand so he's stuck for a minimum of 12 months.
Ignoring his wages etc I won't exactly feel sorry for him, he signed the 6 year contract which like Zaha has given the club all the power. Plus if he wants trophies that badly then we as a club have provided him with the stage to achieve it but unfortunately just like all our players except lloris he failed when we needed him most in those crucial games so he needs to look at himself too for his lack of medals

Not true at all. If Kane is off next summer anyway, then it’s best for the new manager to come in and work with players who will be here. It allows the manager to instill a system that won’t have to be changed in a year because there is no like-for-like replacement for Kane.

This is before considering that Kane’s value will be lower next summer, and that is less money to reinvest - just as other clubs are starting to spend again.

The only real reason to keep Kane would be if you thought it gave you a strong chance at CL - but without reinvestment we have a low chance even with Kane.

Kane should adapt to the new manager’s system, not the other was round.

If he wants to go, let him go. Fuck him.

I think a lot of people (myself included) naively thought he was part of the dying breed of players that are actually loyal.

If he loved the club, he would stay. It’s simple.

He’s fucking adored by the whole fan base and he earns £300k a week from his boyhood club.

I suppose you could put it like that if you really wanted to. What happened is that we just couldn't sign the players that Poch wanted. We tried but they were either already set on Barca and Juve or their clubs point blank refused to sell. Or both. Poch wasn't interested in any alternatives. Levy did try one of his specials at the end of the window but that was foiled by Villa being rescued by a last minute buyout.

Even clearer now that Levy bet the house on Mourinho, it seems he thought he would be successful enough to tell Kane he could leave a year later if he still wanted to go. Such an epic miscalculation and failure to analyse his time 2nd time round at Chelsea and United.

Don't worry the fans will chant his name tomorrow night.
Sissoko will turn to Kane and ask him how he could possibly leave this behind
And with a tear rolling down his cheek Kane will look at him and say, "I can't"

Hopefully the fans will spend most of the time chanting for Levy to fuck off too.

Edit last line...

'' I can't play with you anymore.''
