I think his deterioration became a tangible thing as soon as he publicly stated that he was interested in a new challenge.I think it was both, the switch off caused the deterioration.
From that point onwards, a section of fans could easily blame any/all mistakes made by him in the fact that ‘he doesn’t want to be here’
And of course, ignore the other contributing factors that lead to both his, and the clubs decline in form.
kane, son, dele all injured for periods of time
Sub-par replacements who (even now) still show much less understanding of cohesive team play (Lucas/lamela/sissoko etc)
Burnout through playing every single game, whilst playing through his own injury
to be fair, Eriksen always had dips in form. He would directly influence play (goals/assists) in patches, then drop off. Always a hard one to put in your fantasy team for that reason.
But to continue being fair, he was never a tough tackling midfielder, but always lead the team in interceptions and distance covered.
It’s a shame his time with us is measured in some people eyes by the last 18months, because for the 2-3 years before that he was a significant part of our success.
maybe those people who got so upset about Eriksen ‘phoning it in’ might target their radars on Lloris from now on in that case.
