I personally think we should play him as a midfield creator - what we expecting from Ndombele.
I think he can do a good job in the midfield.
Only problem is Jose expects his midfielders to defend . Ali is not really good at that

Yeah that's the conundrum I guess.
I thought Danny Murphy put it well on MOTD2 last night - most modern formations in the Premier League aren't playing with a no 10 and it's hard to see how Dele fits into the formation we are moving towards. Murphy reckoned that that Dele needs to change position - either to a deeper midfield position or onto the wings. I think that's right and think a deeper role would be better suited for him but I'm not sure Dele is ready mentally to make that shift - it would require more discipline and less tricks. I think if he committed to making that position change he could be a great no 8, but it might take a move for him to realise that.
A player who was sensational at the age of 21 doesn't degrade into a bad player at the age of 23/24.
I don't see a place for him in the regular formation.
LlorisI'd never drop Bale or Son for him to play on the wing and he's too slow to be a runner off Kane imo. I'm hoping Tanguy will cement that central mid spot for himself and I don't like Dele in there anyway, he's too ponderous on the ball and I hate seeing the flicks and tricks in central midfield. Maybe in place of Lo Celso? I dunno.

Imo he's best up front next to Kane in a 2 or in the 10 slot but then you're dropping one of Bale/Son again. It seems a lot of messing about to get Dele in the team. Loads of games to come of course so he'll get games so wouldn't sell him but I don't see where he has a place in the first choice starters. Bale Kane Son is the strength of this team, that imo is untouchable.
Just onions.
Of course they do - there's a very long list of players that did.
Players have to keep pushing hard beyond that age - no one really 'makes it' at 21, but a lot of players can fall into the trap of thinking they have and taking their foot off the throttle.
that's my point though. The ability he had at 21 hasn't gone away. Its still there. The attitude, desire, focus, work ethic or whatever you want to call it has dropped, and that's why he isn't the same player we saw in 2017/18.
Agree with Murphy...
Dele Alli told to ‘change his position’ to save Spurs career
Former Tottenham and Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy believes Dele Alli has to ‘change his position’ if he is to get back into the Spurs team.www.standard.co.uk
Always felt as though as though Dele was not a natural fit in a Mourinho team. Since Mourinho has been here, he has probably wanted to work with Dele to remould his game to become more of a central midfield but perhaps is wondering if that is ever going to happen.
