My concern here is mostly about the price. If you told me this guy would cost 10-15M, I’d be pretty happy with it. That’s the bucket he falls into. Backup striker with limited upside but can certainly do a job.

You tell me we’ve got 40-50M to spend and this is where we want to drop it, I worry very much about how our club allocates its resources. Doesn’t feel like the right level player if we’ve got that much to spend.

You tell me it’s a loan with reasonable option (or long enough term) and it starts to sound much much better.

Obviously regardless if he’s the one I’ll support him the minute he pulls the shirt on and hope he’s Jimenez mark 2

To put this link in some context:

Raul Jiminez
- 1 goal in 21 apps at Atletico Madrid
- 18 goals in 81 apps at Benfica

Carlos Vinícius
- 2 goals in 15 apps at Monaco
- 17 goals in 26 apps at Benfica

Vinícius is 6’3”, and seems to have the raw attributes to succeed in the PL. I certainly wouldn’t be writing him off as a dud as some are in here.

Jimenez has to be one of my favourite non-spurs players to watch, if he is anything like him that'd be awesome.

Yes but let's not forget, four minutes of video footage tells you everything you need to know about a footballers playing ability...

His youtube looked alright though, nothing earth shattering or as exciting as Daka but apparently our manager and scouting team have plumped for this option so that probably just about edges my youtube reel review.

More to the point it's no good saying Daka would be better when the guy doesn't want to move.

If we could manage to get a loan + option like with Gedson, that'd be fucking brilliant. Not sure what the rules are on loans from same club.

im being sarcastic. I don’t believe in using YouTube to scout a guy. It’s fine to get an idea who the person is. ?

It's a typical Spurs signing.

Why anyone at the club is still listening to our useless scouting department I do not know. Another one to go with Njie, Nkoudo, etc etc.

Pay the fucking extra and get a decent player instead of trying to be clever. We aren't clever we always fuck it up.

Depressing.
What’s depressing is having to read agenda-ridden shitposts such as this by people who, for whatever reason, would rather bash the club for every little thing rather than get behind the team and trust that the players we sign this window are players who Jose wants.

You never knew Carlos Vinicius existed before this thread was created. But any excuse to have a pop at the club, innit?

Just view it as giving Mendes the other £20m we owe him for Doherty :p

Benzema-lite?

ITK suggested a while ago that Jose wanted a target man type striker and Vinicius is 6ft3.

Similar trajectory to vincent janssen

Hardly.

Janssen was always a striker and a youth player for one of the best academies in the Netherlands at Feyenoord. He also featured for the national team in every age group from his early teens. He made his professional debut in the Dutch second tier while still a teenager.

By contrast, Vinicius has never represented Brazil at any level; didn't make his senior debut until he was 22; and was a defender or defensive midfielder until shortly after that debut.

How has no one asked the most important question is this debate? How do their FIFA player stats compare?

From one YouTube video you can't see how good someone is but you can see he is a striker. Someone who can lead the line and occupy defenders which is clearly something Jose is looking for.

I’ve said all along we should be looking at guys like him Daka and Edouard. All great prospects. I’ll be happy with any of them.

He is on a long term deal with a high release fee. Does not strike me as an easy deal. Be interesting to see who we finally manage to land on the striker front come the end of the window.

Look I'll say this, there's nothing wrong with not knowing a player and then checking his youtube out and possibly getting excited or even underwhelmed.

At the very least though, be transparent about it, admit you haven't seen a player actually play a match more so than just highlights. Maybe consider not rushing in with such a strong opinion on a player you've seen an 8 minute reel for and acknowledge that maybe one of the best managers of all time has a better eye for a player than your opinion of a few clips so maybe steaming in with such a negative opinion is foolish.

I'll concede the money is a bit of an eyewatering amount and we have gone from eyeing up a plan C in Wilson/king to possibly spending a tidy sum. However we need to trust the manager knows what he wants and we should be excited for a manager of jose quality to be getting the squad balance he wants. That's if it even happens.

Interesting that Wolves were looking at him. I know nothing about him but would rather get Jimenez for the simple fact that he's already Prem ready. Let Wolves have him as a Jimenez replacement.
Jimenez scored 18 goals in his Last 3 seasons in Primeira Liga before coming to the Premier league while vinicius scored 17 goals last season in Primeira Liga alone.
