Thiago is supposedly available for circa £30m - if we bought Aarons, Wilson, Brooks and him for Lamela, Aurier and Winks then we'd still be fine homegrown quota-wise and we'd undoubtedly have a better squad.

Won't happen though, can't see Winks leaving regardless.

Think it would be difficult for the club to turn down £40m or so for him. Obviously with the HG quota being an issue, don't see it happening unless we cover ourselves.

Could be wrong but going forward, not convinced he the type of player Mourinho will turn to for his first 11 and I'd think he'd be OK with cashing in on him.

Small problem of Liverpool wanting Thiago and Thiago wanting to go to Liverpool.

But Winks isn't good enough apparently??!!

In all seriousness we will regret it if we sell him. Who do we replace him with? You've got to then buy a home grown player to replace him with, it's not like you can go buy an excellent CM from Europe. Only really Brooks or Grealish but I think we need them on top of Winks.

Please let that be true.

And no we don’t have to directly replace him with a HG player, where is this nonsense coming from?

If, for example, Aurier moves on, and is replaced with someone like Aarons, that’s one more HG player accounted for.

It doesn’t have to be like-for-like HG swaps only identical positions.

We did hear murmours from a decent itk he was looking to move. Doesnt make sense for spurs unless theres a cheap cm option available thats HG.

Anything 40m+ and we should snap their hands off. He may be a tottenham boy but sorry we need better. We need massive upgrades on him and sissoko. And if we can get 40m+ we should accept it. Also if money is as short as being led to believe that could be money put to use on getting an additional RB as we need 2 if we can shift Aurier. A lot depends on what other players we can get out the door. Also im sure there was whispers he wasnt happy about us signing hojbjerg (not sureif read it on here or twitter). If that's the case says alot about his mentality. Was made undroppable by Poch. Never a good thing.

Glad it wasnt just me who remembered seeing something about him being unhappy. Sell him and that pays for brooks and wilson. Job done. Lo celso can remain deeper and brooks can compete for position further forward. And we get two HG players and possibly some change

Also, Winks is worried about this signing and what it means for his position. It’s a possibility he will be leaving

This was the post

If he wasn't HG and, more importantly, Spurs at heart, I think the significant majority would bite your hand off for £40M.

I do like Winks and he has value as a squad player, but the fact that my main reason for wanting to keep him is that he's one of us and less to do with his actual ability speaks volumes.

Was it last summer or in January that there was a similar story about Pep wanting him at City?

I can totally see why Pep would want him, but I think he can thrive here with Højbjerg and LoCelso. He has a quick turn and burst of pace - as we saw against City - that will be great for the counter. He’s always just needed a DM next to him, as he is not one.

I suggest you watch Ally Gold's video on this.
The club are, and have been, in a tight situation with HG for a while now. Mostly because of Ben Davies, Juan Foythand Eric Dier.

But essentially we are close to the limit of non-HG and that has been made worse with the exit of KWP and the intro of Hoejbjerg.

Selling Aurier and bringing in Aarons will certainly help but selling Winks puts us back in arreas.

Foyth is no longer considered as HG due to missing out the cut off point.

If we sell Winks & Rose we need to bring in possibly three HG players and promote Cirkin.

All season people have been happily been dissing it but when there's rumours of a bid from City they don't want him to leave

Pep has always been a fan. I remember he singled him out a few years back for controlling the midfield against them.

He's a guardiola player. Would get game time too as pep likes to rotate his midfield.
