He’s light years ahead of Dier and Sissoko. At least he doesn’t treat the football like a hand grenade.

In 3 matches time

"We need Dier to offer some defensive presence, Winks doesn't cut it"

"Winks leaves the defence exposed get him out the team ffs"

:D

Gazzaninja
Foyth Alder Sanchez Sess
Skipp
Ndombele Lo Celso
Moura Kane Dele

Just the 5 changes, not bad for a reactionary 11.

He won't play it. but I like the look of that team, although I'd have N'Dombele alongside Skipp.

If we had another option I wouldn't play Moura ever again.

Gazzaniga
Aurier - Foyth - Alderweireld - Vert
Sissoko - Ndombele
Eriksen/Lo Celso - Alli - Sessegnon
Kane

I'm a big fan of Sanchez but he has so many problems with pushing ball forward this season. That's why I would go with Foyth instead.
Ndombele instead of Dier. I don't think it has to be explained.
Eriksen or Lo Celso as Lucas is generally absent in games. Would love to finally see some good passing and movement. So that's why I would go with Lo Celso or Eriksen.
Sessegnon in place of Son. Was good against Bayern so he deserve a chance. Now when Son is off he should get opportunity. Also, he would provide width and pace needed in front.

He really isn't. Winks stinks up the place just as much and has had an extended run in the side under Poch and proved he isn't good enough. It seems JM has cottoned on quite quickly that Winks is shite. He was garbage at United just weeks ago. Classic case of players getting better when they are out of the team.

If Winks can't get into the side ahead of Dier and Sissoko, I would start to look for another club because how can you come back from that. JM must think he is terrible. It is telling that he took Dier off at half time for Eriksen, he clearly feels Winks neither offers what Dier does defensively, nor offers anything creatively. Something I've been saying for ages.

Agree. Winks just looks more graceful on the ball compared to Sissoko and Dier (not exactly difficult). In terms of actual effectiveness, there is nothing there from Winks. Offers no control in midfield or the ability to dictate things. Don't see him being a player Mourinho will turn to and I can see Winks looking to go elsewhere eventually when his playing time is cut.

Absolutely. He will end up at a midtable/lower level PL club, that is his level.

It will be an interesting selection. With Son out will he go with the usual 325 in possession? Will he play Lucas on the left on the right if he does? Will he have an answer if Brighton go with a back five or a similar shape attacking shape to us?

I'm picking this team without knowing how Brighton typically line-up.

Id hope for

Gazza
Sanchez Toby Jane
Sissoko Ndombele GLC Sess
Moura Kane Dele

but expect

Gazza
Foyth Toby Sanchez Jan
Winks Dier
Sissoko Dele Moura
Kane

Hopefully yesterday was a wake-up call for Levy, Mourinho and the team that we have a BIG challenge on our hands to get close to the Top-4 with our current squad and that the new manager 'honeymoon' is over.

Is Jose capable of playing a different formation? Or, is he 100% rigid in his commitment to the 4-2-1-3? Because we are in a spot of bother when we play that way. We simply don't have the right players to make it work. The system depends on two mobile, aggressive, fast, strong and smart CMs. Sissoko and Dier do not permit this system to be effective when they play. They simply aren't good enough. To compound the problem, we have Dele in the 10 role, and when he's off form, it messes up the entire team, as this formation is dependent on the 10 being able to hold on to the ball, cover defensively, carry the ball forward, pick a pass. Yet, it's clear that when Dele brother plays it screws the team.

We also need a highly dependable RB in this system. Aurier is not it.

Lastly, the system requires a CF who can win the ball and hold on to it, to relieve the defense. Sadly, that really isn't a strong part of Harry's game.

I'd like to see Jose play a system that works within the limitations of the players he currently has at his disposal. Continuing to fit these squares into round holes is not working. So bite the bullet and try something else.

I do like the options that brings.

Id personally play Sissoko instead of Foyth on the right and Dele behind Moura and Kane up top in place of either LC or winks (could even have Eriksen there).

We haven't had two up front for a while and this formation lets us do this. Plus you don't need a dm just progressive cns.

Any setup with Ndombele and Lo Celso in central roles and I'll be happy. Somehow not sure we'll ever see that.

Fully expect the same team, minus Son, to stroll out on Boxing Day. Team needs a total rejig, but suspect José is far too conservative for that.

Reckon there'll be two changes at most. Ndombele or Winks into midfield and Eriksen to replace Son.
