Pretty incredible really. Looking at it from the outside you’d think the pitch views would be awful because of the sheer size, but when you get inside the stands are right on top of the pitch.

Get down there if you can, even for an U23s game!
Id love too. I live in Edinburgh and havent had the excuse as yet. Looks mustard. Should be plenty to cheer today. fingers crossed.

Nothing wrong with the shot selection, the luck after that is just something else. To loop that far off a pad over a wicket keeper and to carry to a slip ...

Agree it was an unlucky dismissal but the shot was completely unnecessary given the situation. We needed someone with their eye in to see off the new ball

100% agree. Poor shot selection from Root. Really the first 25-30 overs are about just staying in there today. The scoring rate doesn’t matter too much it’s all about Wearing down the bowlers seeing off the new ball. Then the scoring will come a lot easier.

Massive innings today for Buttler when he comes in. Surely he is on last chance saloon to save his test career. Same for Bairstow but have feeling he won’t be dropped from the side no matter what he scores.

Disagree that it'll get easier to score later, also disagree it was a poor shot selection, you play each ball on it's merits, letting bowlers just bowl at you rarely ends well.

By all means, grit it out but don't stop looking to be positive either.

Naturally the bowlers will get tired which in turn make it easier to bat. Yes they do need to look to score it’s the old adage of making sure you put away the bad ball and not taking unneeded risks which Root did by playing that shot at this time in the match.

He was giving it the verbals yesterday evening to Agnew by all accounts about writing/saying positive stuff he needed to back that up today and he really hasn’t getting out in that sort of fashion

I thought we were under the pump last night, those bowlers really didn't look that tired, Hazelwood had an cracking spell - I must have missed those free flowing runs, throw in the fact this is a day four pitch, hammered under heavy feet, baked in the sun the ball at some point will begin to turn.

We might see, then again we might not, assuming it gets easier to bat on is a bit of a stretch though.

I agree with the positive play you suggest, but charging down the wicket is over aggressive at this stage, if hed have done that say 10 overs after lunch Id have completely agreed with you bud.

Charging? He advanced about two to three paces, let's not go overboard.
