I think that it's also ambition to win silverware. Of course money is important but players also want something to show for their careers.I get that but you have to ask yourself why he didnt sign them surely?
If they were wonderful why wouldnt he?
Money talks. Anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves.
Eriksen ain't signing. Whilst we could get more money if he did, we paid peanuts for him.
If I was Eriksen, I'd be running that contract down so I can pick what team I want to join on a free transfer cos you can guarantee all the top teams will be talking to him. Giving him a £20m signing on fee and £200k per week.
The whole wages issue is a bit of a red herring anyway. We can't possibly offer what other clubs would on a Bosman without destroying our wage structure. Eriksen can't be on more money than Kane (or probably Dele, Son). The Juve model of picking up good players on Bosmans but having to entice them with gargantuan wages isn't, IMO, something we should be trying to compete with. Our only chance of keeping Eriksen is to convince him that we can start winning stuff. We have 6 months to do that.
Don't think he cares either way, from what I've continually heard/read he wants to go to Spain and play fo either of the big two, it's a lifestyle choice and something he already had planned out in his head at the beginning of his career.
If he leaves on a free, we will have to sell players with 2 years left on their contract as a deadline.
If it's a trend that continues to gather pace, we should have a fair choice of decent player to bring in as free agents ourselves. Players seem to be taking the initiative and ensuring that they get a bigger piece of the cake, rather than clubs splashing hundreds of millions around amongst each other.
I dont think even if they are free we would pay the wages. I mean would you pay 400k for Ramsey ? I'd struggle to pay 40k for him.
I think there is a red herring also in looking at the wage amount in isolation, when for a club like Juventus it's a method of giving a massive signing on fee to a free agent but paid in monthly/weekly instalments over the course of the contract rather than an up-front golden handshake. For the optics of Spurs not wanting to look like they're smashing our wage structure, it would look better to pay the big signing on fee up front and then pay a weekly wage in line with our structure. The whole wages issue is a bit of a red herring anyway. If Eriksen does go on a Bosman that is his choice and within the rules but what I have a problem with is Juventus who seemingly have a record of tapping up players to leave their parent club on a Bosman . This allows them to pay a large signing on fee and wages .
The overriding ploy is to get around FFP as lets say player (A) market value £100mil but is out of contract I.E. on a Bosman you can give him lets say £40mil signing on fee and pay the going rate for wages thus saving £60mil on transfer fees and they have got this ploy down to a fine art . It is still cheating FFP and a way to help circumvent FFP. Some might say "very clever or well played " and all this shenanigans by a club that can afford to pay exorbitant transfer fees wages but chooses to do the dirty on opponents .
So if Eriksen goes on a Bosman I am fine with that as that is the rules but if it transpires he has been tapped up like the Juventus model than I would be very unhappy but somehow Eriksen comes across as a man with integrity and would not get involved in such a ploy but you never know as money talks.
On the other hand Eriksen has chosen to not extend his contract meaning that he's still on around £75k a week, if he had signed up then he'd probably be earning what Kane earns now so I don't think it's all about money with him, that's not being greedy , that's being sensible. I'd rather he do that then sign a contract worth big money then throw his toys out the pram a year later and demand a move like Zaha, Mahrez or Arnautovic. He's actually saved us millions in not signing up, obviously we would have got more if he left this summer but nonetheless this situation doesn't reflect badly of him IMO.
