You think Sanchez is ready?

I like him a lot but suspect he will make more errors next season as our number 1 CB than Toby will have in his Spurs career
I think he is.
He did really well, when Toby was out and he got a run of games.

Sanchez effectively replaced Toby in the 2017-18 season and did just fine. He had a bit of a rough campaign last season but was in and out of the team which is difficult for a young defender. I think with another season under his belt he'd be ready to slot in after Toby leaves on a free.

I agree, Sanchez is not ready to be no1 CB. He's a bit too clumsy at the moment but in time he will be amazing, sure of it

He's not going to develop or iron out the mistakes if he's not playing. We didn't pay 42m for him to wait in the wings.

Yeah for £42 million Sanchez has to be a first 11 CB now. He’s had two seasons to settle and adapt, we didn’t break our transfer record to sign a squad CB. Big season expected from him now, he has to step up.

I’m confident he will. He has all the tools, he just need regular games.

Fwiw, he’s agent seems like an Arsenal fan. Hopefully he won’t let that sway the decision of his client.

I think he will still go to arsenal surely if he agreed everything it’s unlikely he will go back on his word ! I know it happens sometime but just can’t see it!

No but it would be nice to have some high quality experienced cover for him if his form dips materially

If it’s toby for Saliba then Sanchez will have to play through any loss of form most likely vs being taken out of the firing line which is effectively what happened this season

It’ll come down to long term outcomes e.g. how much money can he secure for his client and himself. Or it should do, in which case we have to be the more attractive prospect

I'm not sure all this hyperbolic language is really necessary. He has been a valuable asset since he arrived and is still only 23. He could be a CB for us for another decade but you're making it sound like he has flopped and this season is make or break!

Personally I'm more than happy with his contribution and I think we have a rotation policy around defenders so largely it's irrelevant claiming if anyone is "first 11" anyway.

That's if he actually gave them his word, which I'm not sure he did.
I think he may be one of the players that Herc (I think it was) said was waiting to see what we did, before committing to other offers.

It should come to how much game time he will end up getting, but as we know it’s all about money

Sanchez was exceptional in the Copa America and he's actually quite experienced for his age.

First start professionally at 17
Winner of the Copa Liberatodores
Full campaign at Ajax
Europa League final start
One very good full first season in the PL
One WC campaign
One Copa America campaign

We should be fully trusting him now as he's 23 and these next couple of years will define the player he will be at his peak.

Poch trusts him and believes in him, what sort of message does signing an experienced 26+ year old send out to him?

It will tell him that hes not trusted.

If Toby goes Sanchez needs to start, even if Toby stays Sanchez should be in more often.

From everything I’ve seen of Sanchez, he’s better on the left. He’s equally as adept defensively on either side, and looks more comfortable playing the ball out when he’s on the left. Just seems to have more options due to his body shape and the way he uses the ball.
Ledley and Captain Leader Racist were both right footed LCB. Sometimes it helps cover with a RW is looking to cut in on a preferred left foot.

No I'm not saying it is make or break, but if Toby leaves, and it looks like he will, Sanchez will be tasked with replacing an absolutely top class CB. He has to step up and deliver. If he comes in and is inconsistent or gets bullied about, we will be pretty screwed, as Verts is 33 and our only other options are Foyth and Dier, former is very inexperienced and the latter just isn't very good.

We clearly don't have a rotation policy around our CBs, it's pretty much Verts and Toby every single game unless it's against weak opposition or they need a rest. Rotating your CBs is never a good idea anyway, all the best teams over the years had a rock solid CB partnership which is hardly every messed with.

Sanchez's contribution has been fine in his first season, but last season he did not look particularly ready to be Toby's replacement and struggled at times. Yes he's young, but he was until very recently our record signing, and Spurs don't spend that sort of money on rotation options. I don't think it's asking the world for him this season to be asked to step up and deliver strong consistent performances in that position. That is exactly what he's been primed for over the last two seasons. If he doesn't make himself a mainstay at CB this season and step up, who else have we got to step in? There is going to be alot of pressure on him and the club to get it right this season, as clearly we aren't going to spend 60 million on a top class CB this summer.

I have faith in Sanchez I think he will be immense for us, I'm a fan, but let's not pretend we can afford for him not to have a great season.

He wasn't taken out of the firing line because of loss of form. We switched to a back 4 where we had the most experienced pair of CBs in the EPL and Sanchez slipped down the order, much as you'd expect.
