I don’t see Ndombele coming to us. From a french perspective, he is at a very ambitious french club who want to be proper competitors for the title and play cl every year. He is basically at the French Spurs now and will feel his next move could be to a mega club.

I have no insight into what spurs have done but I am highly sceptical. Last summer was the time.

Spurs all over ?

Not being funny but not buying a ST because we fail to get CL doesn’t make anybody doing that a great fan. Also if you buy a ST because we think we are going to sign someone then again not the greatest. You should be buying a ST with the club because you can afford it, and want to watch us week in week out

Agree to a certain extent but obviously people are more excited about the prospect of seeing a team aiming to win titles rather than “just getting by and competing if we can.” Obviously new signings play a big part in that. It’s no coincidence that we get an influx of news stories and ITK that is usually full of exciting names and big money budget promises around the times of season ticket renewals. It’s clearly a marketing strategy just as printing posters etc.

I don’t think it’ll make much of a difference if we’re in the Champions League or not.

This. I can already imagine the excuses for this summer:

With CL
Clubs/players/agents are asking for too much money

Without CL
We need CL to attract our top targets.

It's the premium/box holders you need to worry about. Premium seats have mostly sold out but interest will likely wane if we spend a couple of seasons in the Europa League.

I'd like to see us bring in 3 or 4 young British talents, like we have done previously

Over the last couple of seasons Grealish, Brooks, Maddison, etc have all been available at reasonable prices

Obviously we didn't rate any of them, or at least for the prices their clubs were demanding

Maddison went to Leicester because they could offer him a place in the starting XI which we couldn't. Probably a similar situation with Brookes. We apparently agreed terms with Grealish but Villa then hiked the price right up when their financial situation got straightened out. We should probably have pushed harder earlier on that one but that isn't Levy's MO so I think he may have cost us that one. I think that after signing N'Jie, N'Koudou. Janssen etc, Levy doesn't want to get burnt again but he can't expect to watch players step up and then buy them for what they were valued at the previous season. He also can't expect to get top prices for our deadwood when they haven't seen a minute of playing time.

If there’s one thing our club/players/happy clapping fans are world class at is excuse making.
For years & years we were led to believe we needed CL to attract WC/top class players yet the only one we did was by a total & utter fluke....VDV. Other than him It’s been average dross or players who would have joined us regardless.

Yep - on the flip side, City were signing Yaya Toure from Barcelona when they'd finished 5th the season before (and were nowhere near the force they are now); Chelsea bought Kante after they finished 7th; Arsenal bought Aubameyang while in the Europa - it's all money sadly.

N’jie, N’koudou & Janssen we’re not first choice signings. Not surprisingly they turned out to be shit as they weren’t very good in the first place.

MP wanted Martial & got N’jie instead
MP wanted Batshuayi & got Janssen instead
Etc...

These owners have no desire to win things as long as we keep getting CL footy they’re happy. 1 Mickey Mouse cup in 18 years of ownership, ZERO FA Cup finals, no further than QF in Europe yet we should believe their rhetoric about how they want to make us 1 of the best in Europe. Yes we most certainly will be off the pitch but not on it, not by a long stretch

This is the largest failing of recent years. Considering the jackpot we won with Dele we seem unwilling to try a similar gamble. We should be signing a lower league player every window really regardless of what is happening anywhere else in the side.

Dele was a success because he got in the team and played straight away, can't see how that would be the case now unless they are clearly exceptional.

Our fans are in for a rude awakening if they think the new stadium will help us attract better players due to more income. Just like the CL BS promise of better quality coming in it will be the same here. More of the same with a sell to buy policy without going the extra yard.

Arguably, English (or British) players should be easier to scout as well; from a geographical point of view, but also a cultural understanding of what the player would want, or need.

Also, you'd like to think that our scouts and other club personnel are 100% familiar with the English game and it's infrastructure; the pitfalls and who you can trust, etc.

Surely it must be easier than scouting a player in the French league (or South America)?

That, and the fact that there is no need for time to adapt to a climate/culture/language.

Yes, the PL is a big step up from the championship and lower leagues, but that step is a lot bigger from an outside league such as Ligue 1 or La Liga.

If those punts don't work out, we can offload to teams in the bottom half of the table as HG talent is always needed to match quotas.

I want us to develop a reputation for nurturing and growing local talent, rather than to buy our success through a oil baron or sheik.

To be fair, the best thing Batshuayi has done, is kick the ball into his own face.

The problem is, the clearly exceptional local talent will not come at a fee we would be willing to pay. Look at the figures thrown around for Sessegnon during the last window. Unfortunately we have to take the chance regardless of whether they are exceptional or not. We have to base our decisions on decent scouting and affordable finances. This pretty much only allows us to take chances on "maybe" players.

Maddison and Brooks had good seasons in the championship, but signed for Leicester and Bournemouth respectively. They would both walk into the top 6 squads and quite possibly the starting 11 of these teams due to their performances this season if they were to move during the next window.

If we had taken those two punts I am sure we would've been in a better position at this point in the season. Like I said, taking chances is better than doing nothing at all.

I must admit, for the first time in a long time, the club is starting to cheese me off a little bit.
I cannot see past the current situation and call it anything but negligent.

The problem is Maddison nor Brooks would have got into our starting eleven hence why they probably signed for lower teams where they were garanteed game time, this is the reality of the situation - it may change in the Summer though depending on who leaves.

They've been totally focused on off-field matters, and as a consequence, the on-field has suffered.

Levy should have as little to do with transfers as possible.

Rose has been good this season, no way should he be sold. We have enough to do without selling one of our few consistent performers.

Trippier, Wanyama, Lucas/Lamela all need upgrading for starters. If we managed to sell and replace those three, along with selling (or donating) gkn and Janssen we'd be in a much better place.

I would keep Lucas. He has had a fair few good cameos this year. It might be a similar situation to Son in that he may find more constistentcy to his game in his second full season. He is unlike anything we have in the squad and he does scare defenders. Liverpool couldn't cope with him at times in the first half on Sunday. The talent is there for sure.

What we need is money. We now have the stadium but consistently being in the CL every season is a great way to get it. We have made huge amounts over the last few years from it.
