So Tielemans would be an improvement!!! because Rabiot wasn’t an option? I don’t get it.

We’ve been a bit unlucky with injuries ie Winks and Dier both being out personal I can’t see how Tielemans improves us . I truly believe Pochettino is right to wait for the players he feels will .

I don't understand what you don't get, you said Tielemans wasn't an improvement on what we currently have, I said he's an improvement on the hole that Dembele left then you said Rabiot would have been better which although I agree with, is completely irrelevant to the original point. The unlucky with injuries is such a cop-out because we should have adequate cover for injuries and we don't, especially because in December Dier had surgery and Winks is injury prone.

Tielemans was gettable as a short term solution, Rabiot wasn't gettable.

So i've made peace with flogging Eriksen now, bank the £130m and move on. I hope Toby stays another year, he doesn't strike me as someone itching to leave but clearly they'll be some pretty big potential buyers this summer - for this i'm assuming he stays.

Budget - £200m (assuming CE and deadwood leave, and that there is actually something in the pot currently)

In:

Centre mid - no idea who - Isco, Kovacic, Rabiot??
Wan Bissaka - £40m
Chilwell - £40m
Tielemans - £20m
Sessegnon - £25m

Wishful thinking i suspect!

Subtract 60-70m from Eriksen and double the price on Tielemans and you're more accurate.

With Tielemans?

He was apparently offered to us and Poch turned his nose up. People are talking about what (allegedly) happened and how it has panned out. We couldn't get Rabiot or N'Dombele or any number of other options, but we could have got Tielemans and we would now have him as a CM option where we are totally screwed. It was a half season loan, not a 30m investment.

There’s only so many players you can have in a squad so how mentioning injuries is being a cop out .

There are some contradictions please clarify who’d be a better fit for the Dembele hole as you put it Rabiot or Tielemans?

Anyway people are entitled to there opinion.... I don’t see how Tielemans in how poch sets up our midfield improves us.

I personally feel we are much better off waiting for the right players and shuffling the squad.

Just my opinion guys

There's really not contradictions, your original point was that Tielemans wasn't an improvement on our current squad, I say he is considering there's a Dembele shaped hole and would have been perfect as a 6 month loan deal.

I prefer Rabiot over Tielemans if those are the options given to me but that was not the point I argued in the first place. I don't want Tielemans long term but would love Rabiot.

Be lucky to get 50 million for Eriksen. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t sold as his displays this season simply aren’t good enough for Madrid.

Yeah 130mill I can't see happening, Coutinho was 140mill and he had 4 and a half years left on his contract, Eriksen will have 12 months. If we get 70 then I think off the top of my head that'd be a world record for 12 months left.
What is this about Eriksen fetching us £130m, I keep seeing it on here and I don't understand why? He's on the last year of his contract, why would anyone pay £130m for him when they can get him for free the season after?

Yeah you're probably all right, but if Madrid are desperate for him and he's the man ZZ wants, you never know.

Zidane has bought Isco back into the team and he scored at the weekend, if anything I'm not actually convinced anymore that they're that desperate for Eriksen, they certainly won't be paying over the odds for him in the summer anyway.

By all accounts, Zidane has his heart set on signing one of Pogba and Mbappe as well as Hazard. I'm with you, I really do not get the impression he wants Eriksen. In truth, Eriksen is no better than what Real Madrid already have.

Besides, Eriksen would get absolutely eaten alive by the Real fans. He just isnt strong enough mentally to cope with pressure, so getting it from his own fans because he's expected to perform EVERY match would be too much for him. He certainly would not be allowed to go missing for months in a season like he does for us.

I don't know why we have been overlooking the fact that Eriksen may not be sold and he did say if he didn't get his move he would sign the extension.

I'm not against the idea of Eriksen staying, it means we don't have to worry about replacing him. I just feel like without his fee our business will be drastically changed financially.

Assuming that we lose both Eriksen and Toby, they have to be replaced. That's why it's 8 players and not the 5 that we would probably need now. We have to replace Vorm and we still need a very quick second striker.

HG keeper - Pope?
RB - I'd love Wan Bissaka but I don't think we have much of a shot, no idea what else is out there
CB - that bloke from Italy, or someone like Tah
LB - would love Telles but probably unrealistic
CM 1 - Diawara
CM 2 - Ndombele - don't see us paying the asking price
AM - Brandt - will be courted by others
ST - No idea

Sell: GKN, Janssen, Eriksen, Toby, Vorm, Trippier, Wanyama, Davies

That lot might fetch between 100-130m. To get in the quality that we need, we'd probably have to spend closer to 200m - so a net outlay of at least 70m. Can anyone see that happening?

No. Simple as that. I keep deluding myself into believing that Poch has been effectively 'saving up' and Levy has promised him a massive budget for the first season in the stadium.

But we all know that's not gonna happen

And we lost, you don’t get bonus points for playing well. That’s 4 defeats in 5 with the other being a lucky draw. 10 defeats in 31 games, that’s already more than the whole of season 15/16 & 16/17 combined. These are not knee fucking jerking reactions by fans but genuine posts of fans concerned with the direction the club is heading in on the pitch.

Here’s a list of players we signed with CL football.

Pau Lopez

N’Koudou

Wanyama

Gazzaniga

Sissoko

Janssen

Foyth

Llorente

Aurier

Moura

Sanchez

The lot of them would have signed for us even without EL footy let alone CL. That’s the desire/ambition our owners have of succeeding on the pitch! All these fancy names people posting on here, don’t do it to yourself lads as it’ll be more of the same.
The evidence suggests we’ve seen a shift from signing maybe players for low sums to holding out for players they will improve the first team. Many of those players represent the fruits of a failed model. This model is unsustainable, not least because maybe players are now so expensive they expensive players are relatively good value.

Llorente was a good punt and had been a model pro.

Foyth and Sanchez are great signings given time. Add one more and we have dealt with the jan : Toby succession perfectly.

Sissoko has proven himself worth the money this past year - he finished last season well too (got strong praise from poch this time last year).

Gazzaniga was a great signing for the money and his role.

Wanyama was a beast before he got crocked. Occupational hazard... good value.

Aurier, Janssen and Nkoudou were all crap.

Have we had a great season ? If we win all our home games in the new stadium and finish top 4 having got to a CL QF then it’ll hardly have been a catastrophe !!

If we were in a rich vein of form and had enjoyed a couple of sterling transfer windows, then your post would make sense.

But you've got to realise that as the 'bad-news' builds, there will be a tipping point where the fans realise things are starting to fall apart.

That realisation was yesterday for some (and a few weeks back for others).

Most fans want the team to do well, but we've all been here before. As I've said in my post above, we know how this story ends.

Stellar transfer windows are not an end in itself - performance on the pitch is.

No good strategy will fold because of bad form. The people responsible will assess things calmly at the end of the season and do their utmost to improve the team. A second season like this would be untenable and I trust the team of people we have to respond appropriately.

Great post.

JJetset said earlier our transfer plans depends on CL qualification or not. I dread to think about what kind of players we would recruit without CL.

Here’s a stupid question (disagree rating bonanza incoming):

With not spending anything in the last two transfer windows (and with the transfer fee of dembele included in the mix), you’d think we have quite a lot saved up for this window even without any outgoings?

According to my calculations we have currently 11million in the transfer warchest. That also is equal to the Dembele fee to no coincidence.

No I can't see anything other than the usual spend and a tidy profit at the end of August.
