I know what some teams (Chelsea in particular) do though, which as far as I'm aware we don't, is to structure loan contracts so that the more they play, the less it costs a club. If a player appears for a certain amount of games/minutes etc. the loan fee decreases in stages, or the parent club will cover more of the wages - there's some extra incentive there to play them and stick with them.
They had Redknapp and an agent on the BT Premier League Tonight programme yesterday and they were saying that lots of clubs can’t afford the wages the Chelsea players are on so can’t take them. I wonder if it’s the same with us.
Also they said that when clubs take players on loan and don’t play them then sometimes there is a clause in the contract that they have to pay double the wages that week as a penalty for not involving the loanee.
