Hate Lukaku the big bastard. Really don't want him to win the golden boot especially ahead of Kane.

But why Martinez insists on picking the bang average Witsel ahead of Dembele, against a team like Japan who will be organised and disciplined in defence but offer little going forward that the three CBs can't deal with, is beyond me.

Agreed. Witsel is nothing special. Dembele, though made of glass, is far superior.

I think it's a little too easy to breach this Belgian defence personally, I think they are a bit weak at wing back especially on the left.

Every now and then I have to remind myself Lukaku is only 25. It feels like he's been in the game for about 15 years...

I do have a real soft spot for Japan, a real technical side, let down by that vital cutting edge in the final third. Have enjoyed watching them since the days of Hide Nakata.

But Belgium really, really should be cruising past them, and are the best team to show Brazil up for the chancers they are.

Shame, Mexico came out pressing and harrying and got at Brazil, but that soon faded and what we were left with was a reasonably even game, ultimately decided by the abject shitness of Mexico in the final third compared to Brazil.

Mexico had several good scenarios and just pissed them all away. Brazil had several and made two count.
Think Mexico played to their full potential, like they did against Germany. They made it count against the Germans, and they couldn't against Brazil.

They got worn down, fatigued, because that's what a pressing game does to a team defending against a superior attacking team. Then when they get fatigued, they still have to close down attacking passes through the lines, keep two defenders close to Neymar, chase runners like Willian throughout the game; it was just a matter of time.

Sure, Mexico had their chances, but I thought Brazil won pretty comfortably in the end.

Lukaku's first time passes have been Sunday League standard.
