Us playing 442 without Adebayor won't work IMO. The sole reason it did was due to the running and work rate of Ade. Something Defoe won't offer in the slightest.

This will be Sherwoods big test for me over Xmas. Ade can't play both upcoming games you would think, especially as his match fitness won't be the same as everyone else's. Now when Ade does get a rest, if Sherwood plays Defoe up top along with Soldado, it will confirm to me he's going to stubbornly persist with his "anti AVB" tactics no matter what, and confirm my fears he's not ready to manage a team like Spurs.

It certainly could. Doesn't have to be Ade though.

With Defoe off, Baldini has something up his sleeve...................aside from his arm that is..........:bag:

That was a much better match to watch. Glad to see that Ade is proving any doubters wrong, I like AVB but I do feel like he made a mistake pushing him out of the team.

Looking forward to the next one :)

All because he plays defoe with soldado?

Partly, yes. I'm not saying I hope he fails. I want someone who gets the best from our undoubtedly talented squad. If that's Sherwood then I'm fine with that. I don't not want him to become manger just because he comes across as a bit of a smug tit. If he's the best man to deliver what we need with the squad, and he then proves it, I'll be ecstatic.

However, shoe-horning Defoe into the starting 11, just to stubbornly keep his 442 formation he seems to like, regardless of Defoes obvious limitations, shows me a lot to be frank. Can you imagine playing arsenal at the emirates, going 442 with Defoe and Soldado up front? Car crash.

As I stated before, it'll be interesting to see what he does when forced to play without Ade, who has provided a real spark for us.

Is Tim Sherwood making selections and decisions for the good of the team or for the good of his CV?

They can be mutually beneficial but I think it is more a case of the latter.

Will be very interesting to see how the next few games go. The media onslaught in support of his appointment will only increase.

I hope Levy takes his time and does not make a knee jerk appointment of Sherwood. I am sure he will do fine with decreased expectations for the rest of the season but not sure he is the right man for the long term.

If he was making decisions for the good of his CV he would have gone all out to please the fans by smashing a london rival in his first game in charge. Instead he assessed the situation, decided what was important for spurs as a club and risked been thrown out on his arse after one game by playing a weaker side. Because those players didn't play weds we can probably keep more or less our best pllayers in the starting line-up for the next 4 games straight. If we can take 12 points we'll be laughing our bollocks off and won't give a shite about watching Spam getting fuckslapped by a City 2nd XI

I didn't know Capoue or suspended was injured, my bad. He is the only other cultured CDM for me in our team.

Capoue was on the bench today, but i guess as defensive cover for the meant time.

Just finished watching the match, and a good performance. Ade was fantastic, and the whole team worked really hard, which made 4-4-2 work.

I was impressed with how we compressed the space on the pitch which didn't really allow southampton to utilise the extra man in midfield.

I still have my misgivings about 4-4-2, the first half we missed that extra man at times, some of our own mistakes were down to not having that or being pressed by their extra man. But the second half we really made it work. Often a defender or forward would come to give the extra man. We seemed quite flexible in that regard.

I still think we can even go 4-5-1 at times if need be. Especially if we send players forward as we did today. I think some better teams will dominate us more if we rigidly stick with 4-4-2. But if we can be flexible than why not? At times we went 4-3-3 Today as well

Also i was pleased with Lamela's performance. Really worked hard, gave the ball away a few times, but in general his ambiton to get on it, and move the ball forward was impressive. Bentaleb was nicely composed, and walker i think is getting back to two years ago. Siggurdson work rate was great, Eriksen was solid on and off the ball. Dembele looks a bit tired, but despite our poorer recent performances under AVB he was one of the few who could be counted IMO.

In meaning with our current squad. I think 442 could work with Kane playing the Ade role, but not with Defoe. I think Sherwood would play Defoe before Kane. In my opinion anyway.

Well no, I certainly would not be inclined to go to the Emirates with Soldao and Defoe starting but craven cottage?; not such a big deal.

Not disagreeing with your post but I made a point last week that I didn't really understand the whole 'match fitness' nonsense that a player takes 3-4 games to get back to form. If a player is fit and ready he's ready to go in my opinion. Look at Ade today, 2 games back and 3 goals, Danny Rose has played exceptionally well in my opinion, Chiriches had a solid performance as did Eriksen. I think they have more to prove when they come back to keep their place so if the physio deems them ready, play them all you want I say.

It was a joke - you posted the same thing twice.
Oh, right. Yeah that was because 2 separate members picked up on my failure to understand who "Bobby" was and I replied to each. As it was rather embarassing for me, I really wanted to give reason to all who questioned me!
