Im not saying he's going to replace Bale or anything. As dumb as it sounds ive followed him his whole career and can tell from following the national team he's about to prove himself here. He wants nothing more then to win over the Spurs supporters.
a week or so ago I was in Las Vegas watching the States lose to Belgium and was talking about Dempsey with some American fans who shared your opinion

I personally think what we saw last year is what we'll get this year, which is no real bad thing as he's a steady performer who will be an option of cover and as an impact sub but I don't expect him to suddenly become good enough to WARRANT a first team spot (not if we buy a decent player or two and/or the likes of Ade recapture their best form)

Danny Rose!? Gob smacked at the amount of people that want him in the first 11. Guarantee ypull all be disappointed if he does start for us, and be begging for benny back! Incedently I do think benny needs replacing, but only with someone of better quality, not lesser.

Gk:
Lloris - easily one of best keepers in the Prem and even world and will get better.
Friedel - experienced and reliable back up.
Right back:
Walker - good defender but can be prone to mistakes or trying too much in defensive positions. Must want to better himself next season and push for England position as motivation.
Naughton - feel he did well last year and can play on either side and English.
Left Back: This is an area where we must improve on this season.
Options -
Shaw - from Southampton would be my first choice as is young and could be signed relatively cheaply and as mentioned in previous posts, can rotate with Jan until Dawsons nackered, and can then make the left back spot his own at spurs and also England!
???
Centre Back:
Dawson - solid, passionate, reliable. Would die for the cause and puts his body on the line every game. A true captain. Every team needs a player like this! Still got at least 2 seasons in the starting line up in him if injury free.
Vertonghen - Pure class. Must keep him happy to prevent him leaving. Could easily be a top player at barca. Don't know why they miss out on centre backs like this as don't cost a great deal when we got him and they clearly need a solid defender or too. They instead buy overpriced holding midfielders and play them at centre back. (cough song cough! Btw hope we dont get him!)
Kaboul - arguably would be in the first 11 if fit because he's a real top player IMO. Great I the air, great tackler and good on the ball. Just need to keep concentration throughout the game.
Caulker - give him a bit more game time and let him develop and he can be an international defender. Maybe send him on short loans a few times to keep him match fit when cup and euro games aren't happening.
Centre midfield:
Dembele - did an excellent job of holding the midfield last year and I believe he doesn't get credit he deserves for sacrificing himself or the team. Would love to see him given more freedom next year so he can show the doubters that he is creative and a top player.
Sandro - top holding midfielder. Only thing I'd say to improve is the accuracy of his passing at times.
Livermore/Huddlestone - id keep one of these two as back up player. Rate both, but sources make me believe Huddlestone nearly retired the other year due to ankle trouble and that he'll never be fully fit again, and a side of me would like to see Livermore get a proper chance somewhere.
Carroll - again back up. Play him few more times from kick off to see if hel ever make the step up.
Holtby - needs time to settle in, but Nce he does will be a top player and can easily be an important member of the first 11.
Siggy - play him down the middle where he belongs so we can see him at his best and see wether he can make the standard before writing him off prematurely like many have.
Paulinho - after watching him for brazil before and during the confeds I believe he'd be a great signing and would complement out midfield and complete the 3. Great defensively and at breaking up play but can also play and chip in with goals.
Honda - always rated this guy and now I know he's available on a free I'd 100% snap him up. Can play any midfield role. Even if he flops he'd still being revenue in from creating interest in Japan!
Forwards:
Defoe - still capable of scoring goals as an impact player and cover, but feel we need one or two steps up if we wanna challenge.
Bale - He scores when he wants! play him wide cutting in or in a free role drifting into wide positions so that he doesn't get crowded out in the middle yet will still find himself I dangerous positions. Imperative that we keep hold of him for at least one more season. Shouldn't let the 100 mil cloud our judgment as we will get that next year anyway!
Villa - still class at 31 and is a proven winner. Will bring extra touch of class to the team and prove people who have written him off as too old given half a chance. Bargain aswell!
Lennon - underrated by many. Was one of our best last year and acted as a outlet when teams focused too much on bale
Townsend - proved himself at qpr on loan. Keep him this year

From thist starting 11 would be;

Lloris.

Walker. Dawson. Jan. Shaw.

Sandro. Paulinho.

Dembele.

Bale. Villa.

??????

put a ? For our main forward as I'm struggling to think of an option. Originally thought Damiao but now wondering wether he can be that world class 25 - 30 goal striker a top club MUST have. Others like Abel Hernandez, Martinez etc who I considered don't really fit into the mould either. While I have no doubt they will or are top players, can we afford the risk or the time for them to gel as we NEED at least 4 th next season or risk going backwards and losing bale. Think Javier Hernandex would be a great option as he's a class poacher and under used and valued at man u and would be a perfect foil for vale and villa up top.
Just one more word to say... I think pavlyuchenko would fit brilliantly into the 433 system and would have been invaluable for us last year! Why redknapp let players like him and krancjar and keane (who would still be scoring goals for us!) etc leave bemuses me! But his unwillingness to change things is meant to be the key to him getting sacked and while I think he did a top Job and disagreed with him leaving, is something I strongly agree with!
With the players we have in my proposed squad I feel avb has the players too rotate and keep fresh while not sacrificing the quality of the team...

Don't know how you come to the conclusion Dembele can't pass the ball forward!? He's got great all round technique and will prove people wrong next season!
And on Paulinho, watch him this weekend for brazil and then tell me he can't pass the ball forward...
Can only presume that because these players play defensively, you take it that they can't pass forward. So I also take it that Pirlo can't play forwards? If a defensive player plays short balls it is normally down to the managers instruction to offload the ball to the nearest player. Both Paulinho and Dembele have so much more than this to there game. However Sandro should be there to break up play and give the other two a bit of freedom as such. However whilst he's not the best passer he is still good at driving forward with the ball from deep.
On another note, Paulinho is ahead of man city's 30 million pound fernandinho aswel as many other great players. This shows how highly a great proven coach like scolari rates him. We must now follow up this great signing with more top signings as arsenal seem to be making a statement with their signings (Higuan and Fellani rumoured) and Chelsea always spend big. COYS

I'm a big fan of Georginio Wijnaldum, but I'm not quite sure you could expect him to start for us right away in such a pivotal position. He's a fantastic talent and would be a great purchase looking towards the future.

Already confirmed as Premier League winners 2013/2014. I've probably missed a few things out. I think we should also try sign a defender or two but I don't know who.

That has less to do with each players ability and more to do with Brazil's attitude to players leaving and not becoming stars

Hence Dante's 4 caps despite being better than Luiz

Not sure what you mean? (there are lots of stars in the brazil team and also players from foreign teams luiz included...) While Dante is a good defender and luiz is love/hate there's no denying some of what he does is pure class and scolari is obviously a lover. Am sure big Phil would just pick the team he thinks is best being as brazil haven't won anything in a while
