I hope that GLC becomes so consistent and so good that we start to debate who the other two should be.

Just a bit of fun, but when everybody is back and availble we'll have the best midfield depth, in terms of quality throughout , in the league imo.

So who'd you pick....

Mine would be:

Bentancur
Sarr
Maddison

Bissouma obviously can play 6 or 8, GLC 8 or 10 , and Kulusevski covers 10 as well.
For me it depends on the oppo. Against top oppo who press high I’d go;
biss benta madds - if struggling bring in sarr for his legs

agsinst deep blocks I’d go
Benta Gio madds- that has so much creativity as all 3 can pick a pass, dribble and score.

I also think if madds needs a rest and the aim is to play Kulu he needs real legs behind him so you need sarr and one of biss/benta

I honestly have no idea what 6,8, and 10 mean, certainly when we have fucking full backs dominating our midfield.
Yeah, the numbers in the traditional sense barely apply here. A midfield three usually has either one holding and two box to box ( pivot and two mezzalas either side) or a double pivot and a hook/trequartista. The way we play with our best availability is essentially 4 mezzalas if you include the full backs, and one trequartista.

I personally think it's Sarr/Bents/Madds.

I'm still not sure. I think if we were talking about pre-Luton Bissouma then he'd be one of the first names on the team sheet and I would never imagine him not starting. I guess the current reality is that we still need to see that version again, and Bentancur's level may very well be higher.

What I will say though is that having to have one of Sarr, Bissouma or Bentancur to be used in rotation with the others is exactly where we should be as a squad.

Tough one this. Lots of good points have been made above.

I think, as others have said, there are probably three somewhat distinct roles, in that there's a difference in attacking vs. defensive bias (albeit all do some of both) that are generally referred to as:

10 - the most attacking of the three
8 - the box to box, most balanced of attack and defence
6 - the more defensive

My thoughts:

- I won't cover off players like PEH and Skipp, as there's no way they come into the equation.
- The only one I think is nailed on is Maddison. Probably our best player, if he regains early season form anyway. There are loads of combinations that work, but they all include him.
- The other players of sufficient quality to be considered are: GLC, Sarr, Bentancur, Bissouma, Deki (for certain situations)

I'd split them as:

10 - Maddison, Deki. GLC, though maybe not his best position
8 - Sarr, GLC and Bentancur. Maddison, though maybe not his best position.
6 - Bentancur and Bissouma

Honestly, not deliberately dodging the question, but apart from Maddison at 10, it's a horses for courses, and form debate. Would be happy with any combination. It also makes me wonder whether we really need Gallagher. Looks a very strong group

Whatever people's preference for a starting XI, the most exciting factor is the depth of talent we will have off the bench or for rotation.

For me Sarr is one of the first names on the team sheet.

Understand why Agne was so excited about him in pre season after watching him live four times now.

He's unique in the sense that he covers so much grass, contributes to so many turnovers and is excellent in transition.

He's the engine in the midfield and genuinely think he's going to be one of the best in the PL.

When all fit, on current form - Maddison, Sarr, Bentancur.

Had you asked me at the start of the season I would have said Maddison, Bissouma, Bentancur. I think Sarr really deserves his place.

we have a good collection of midfielders now:

bissouma/bentancur
sarr/lo celso
maddison/kulusevski

forget signing a work donkey like gallagher, put that 40-50m towards a shit hot attacker.

100% this. Having an ability to rotate or sub without a precipitous dropoff is something we really haven’t had in years (and perhaps ever).

Ange's first-choice midfield if everyone's fit and on form will most likely be: Bissouma, Bentancur, and Maddison.

I think he even mentioned in a press conference that he's excited to see those 3 play together at some point.

Ali Gold indicated on his podcast that Ange has hinted he wants to play Bissouma and Bentancur together

Bissouma, Bentancur, Maddison for me but equally happy with Bentancur, Sarr and Maddison.

For lesser teams I’d love to see a Bentancur, Maddison, Lo Celso 3. The creativity and posession control would be immense.

Yeah it’s massive! This stylr of play expects a lot of some players, if we can switch out 2 cms when legs are going and bring on talent of the quality of Gio and sarr it’s pretty huge.
It asks a lot of the wingers and full backs too so if we can get to the same level of back up on those too we can rotate heavily and keep the team very fresh so the 60 minute drop off doesn’t happen.
