Wembly, its easier for me to get a ticket then
I believe if we are to evolve as a club and play with the big boys, we have to get rid of the "small club" mentality.
Why play a qualifying match at Wembley as if its our "cup final" and we wont be progressing further?
Part of the romance of this cup is to compete with these teams with the view of battering them on our turf!!
I don't think it would be a small club mentality as the reason, simply making as much money as possible.
The first couple of cup games for a season ticket holder at WHL are free so we would make nothing from a qualifier played at WHL. If the qualifier was played at Wembley they could sell an extra 40,000 tickets.
Also at WHL a game against Barcelona (if we get to the group stage) wouldn't make much more than a game against Stoke as we pretty much sell out all the time (with a slight difference in cost between the different categories).
But at Wembley they could increase the seat price due to a different stadium as well as sell 80,000 tickets.
Unfortunately football is now all about money and if we wanted 4th place so much in order to generate the prestige and financial clout to compete with the big boys then we should also accept playing at Wembley may be a necessary evil to do this.
Weird. A mate of mine rung me yesterday and said he'd heard we were considering using Wembley with CL 'season' tickets being put on offer. I just told him to fuckoff back to Jackanory and changed the subject. I might have to ask him if he 'heard' it as in someone ITK told him or he just read it on some forum or another.
Wasn't there a thread ages ago about how the advertising boards around the edge of the pitch had to be X amount bigger than for Europa League games and that we'd lose the first 2 or 3 rows of seats around the pitch?
Financially yes, Wembley would make cents (Sense!!). But I am old fashion so my heart would go for the Glory of winning at home as oppose to any financial advantage!I don't think it would be a small club mentality as the reason, simply making as much money as possible.
