I don't think we should sign Shelvey as there's better alternatives out there that suit us better, but to be fair to the guy I was at the game today and I'll admit I was seriously impressed with how he's developed.

On another note watching us today I seriously hope we invest in January to freshen the squad up. We've actually not had a bad start considering everything in the league but we need to hit that next level and a CM is vital for the team right now and the future so we must get one who can make an impact now and will become even better. I really like De Jong but Ndombele would make a better impact at the current time in my opinion.

I rarely watch MOTD... It's shite. But I guess you're aiming that at the few of us who rate Shelvey. He's really developed into a really good player. Watched a lot of him at Swansea as well and he's still performing well in a struggling Newcastle side.

He's exactly the type of player our midfield is crying out for.
Shelvey is definitely the type of player we should be looking for but I don't think he's the one. He still has tons of total brain fart moments and stupid challenges that would drive us crazy. Talented but inconsistent still.

When you consider Pochettino's record for improving English talent I'd say he'd definitely be worth taking a punt on.

I'd just like any midfielder that doesn't immediately pass it straight back where it came from every time they get it.

Eric Dier? He tends to pass it straight to the other team lately.

In all seriousness though, we don't play a direct game, so judging a player based on the direction of his passes is fruitless - you should only do it based on the success of them.

Chilwell is a classy LB. Leicester would demand a small fortune for him though.

He's probably an upgrade on peak Sandro, with similar flaws, but would have noses turned up at him for not being good enough on [insert computer game here] probably.

Definitely on my list of 'players I think would improve us but I'm not brave enough to mentioned online'

The guys 26, he's not some youngster. Besides I don't know that it has anything to do with being English either thats just the majority of the players we have featured. Son, Toby, Dembele, Eriksen, Lamela, etc have all improved massively under Poch's tutelage. I don't think we can just buy any English player and think oh Poch will perform magic on him just cause he was born in this country.

Don't care about his FIFA rating, I just don't see Shelvey as being consistent enough for what we need. Talented player but theres a reason he's still at Newcastle.

Wouldn’t be a signing we’d all be thanking our lucky stars over but Ezri Konsa from Brentford would be a great long term signing at centre half. Think he’s got real potential and is clearly one of these young players that has grown 10fold from playing regular men’s football.

after watching the game v Cardiff if we are to sign another CD or 2 to cover and eventually replace Jan and Toby, we need to find 1 that's good with his feet, but can command in the air. when we do win the set pieces against us, we only seem to just about clear the penalty area.

on the Shelvey situation, 1 would be a bonus as a HG, because we really need to find 3 or 4 HG once the new rules kick in. Shelvey has very good distribution, and can pick a pass, the thing I would worry about him is his head, he is a tackle away from a red card most games he plays

I'd take Shelvey in a heartbeat, and the thing is, I get it when people say there are better out there but after this summer just gone, do you really trust us to find and go out and get these so called players? I sure as hell don't. So as underwhelming as Shelvey may be to some, he does have attributes that we really lack in our team and I personally believe he would certainly improve us.
Not only that, but if he turned out to be mostly a squad player in the near future, he's the type of player who could maintain a flow and tempo to our play in a second string/weakened team. Something we can severely lack when most noticeably Eriksen isn't present.

I think that next Summer will be a watershed. The club can not get away with taking the p""" with a lack of investment, without Poch walking or the fans up in arms. Or, ENIC are looking to sell us.

Unfortunately think the watershed just went. We missed it

It seems as though the wheels are to come off soon, correct me if I heard wrong but Christen, Toby, Dele and Verts are all coming to the last year of their contracts in May?

I'd take Shelvey as a back up after falling short on that Villa lad.

Dele is until 2022.
Eriksen, Alderweireld and Vertonghen are all just one more season after this. And we're forced to accept a 25m bid next summer for Alderweireld, while we'll likely agree to any decent bid (50m+) for Eriksen as well. There'll be big changes to our side going forward. Dembele out of contract next summer.

Frankly I'm amazed we're discussing the likes of Shelvey, the only way we improve is by buying players that are better than we already have, Shelvey isn't and blocks the progress of Skipp, Amos etc. We need marquee signings not more shelf fillers like Sissoko and Wanyama. If we're happy with 3rd/4th fine, if not we need to push the boat out for a couple of world class players.

I wouldn't fret about Eriksen, I can't see any of the mega clubs going near him, he's a good player but doesn't get near the Barca/Real/City teams.
