Listening to Romano on last word on spurs yesterday and he didn't say it outright but I think I can make an educated guess on our plan.

I worry that many are getting too carried away by thinking we are spending a fortune . I dont think we will at all.

What I think though is Paratici will show us how to act decisively and be proactive in the market . I reckon there will be a couple of big free transfers supplemented with some attempts at almost hidden gems that conte and paratici like.

January will be interesting if only for who Conte deems not good enough.

As long as we bring in quality players that improve our team. I couldn't care less whether it's on a free, a big fee transfer or a clever signing for £10/15m that is exactly what Conte needs for his system (a left-footed centre-back who has got a contract until 2022 for instance)

Spending a fortune should never be a goal in itself.

My concern with hiring Conte was about the board not providing him with what he asks for. But this is not specifically about transfers. Conte notoriously wants a large and expensive backroom staff and I have to believe on the non-playing staff side the board has agreed to what he wants.

But I agree with you that we're not suddenly going to spend huge. Our net spend over the last 3 seasons is £200m plus we have the upcoming fees for Romero and Gollini so more like £250m.

We'll continue to spend but I doubt the likes of Dybala will suddenly be joining us.

The most important thing is that Conte has all his first team squad complete for the first week of July when pre-season starts. No dicking about in the last week of August - let's give him the players he wants / needs and 6 weeks to get them super fit and organised.

Romano told an interesting story about Inter.

Last January Conte was desperate to bring in Giroud for competition/cover for a tired Lukaku. It would have cost 1 million plus wages

He begged and begged and eventually got his way only for a board member to block it at the last minute, he was raging.

And to be honest I think that's interesting as it shows he doesn't just want megastar. He had identified an affordable realistic target which ok didn't represent a good sell on value but if that's the sort of thing he needs and our board blocked that I'd be fuming.

We have our lukaku and martinez in kane and son. We have a top keeper, have at least one centre back and I think conte will make the others much better . We have two good wingback too .

What I'm saying is the only position we could arguably need a big signing is midfield and with Kessie and Brozovic nearly out of contract and our director of football being a free transfer specialist I could see us doing some very smart business there.

Isn't it wonderful to be hopeful about spurs for once ?

But lots of the best deals become available as players get bought and sold. We're far from the only ones doing deals later in the window. Literally every club does it and every team's fans complain about it.

I've been begun to think that our biggest issue might not lie solely at our defense, but rather in our midfield which are neither good enough defensively nor at controlling the midfield.

The only one who's exceptional with the ball at his feet is Ndombele and he's, to put it mildly, not exactly reliable when defending.
Winks is good at controlling the ball but is just too risk-averse and often suffering from lapses in concentration when defending
Lo Celso can spot a pass but doesn't have the best touch and lacks concentration both in offense and defense
Skipp is a decent ball-winner but needs to improve both his reading of the game and playing with the ball at his feet
Hojbjerg is basically a powered up Skipp but with the same weaknesses and hasn't been at his best for a while now

Skipp has potential and benefits from the doubt, but even though I love Hojbjergs mentality and personality, I would barely shrug my shoulder if we replaced him, Winks, Lo Celso, and Tanguy. I think we can, and should, do much better.

Benoit Badiashile has been linked via Calciomercato. No idea how reputable they are. Not seen much of him heard about him being highly rated. Anyone who is a bit more educated in ligue 1 able to say anything more about him
He’s a bit too up and down in his performances the past 12 months or so for my liking. Hasn’t really progressed after his breakthrough season, and I feel he is a little overhyped. However, the qualities he does have are very desirable in the position, mainly his passing weight and selection. Can play the fundamental passes contes automations require to a very high level. And when he’s good, he’s very good. I don’t doubt his positioning or his instincts, I doubt his actual execution of defensive actions. Right place, wrong input/decision kind of player too often recently. His levels have fluctuated too much, and Conte said it himself, he wants a more stable team. It’s an issue that can be fixed though, and he has shown a level of consistency before when he first broke through. Even if it doesn’t improve, his strengths should be amplified and his weaknesses hidden a bit in the back 3. And at 20, has tons of time to improve, his ceiling is sky high.

Not if we can do pre-contracts for players out of contract (Brozovic, Kessie etc.).

If we want to win the league then we need to be serious about maximising out chances. A 6 week pre-season with the players he has will really give us a masisve advantage over buying players in the last week of August.

Sure. Players on contracts running out and players with release clauses can be bought early.

But most deals are done through negotiating transfer fees and this takes time. If we want to win the league, we need the best players.

The guy who called Son covid stuff reckons

Kessie to Spurs is done and we’ve agreed terms with Vlahovic since the summer and we will 100% be back in for him.

Interesting to see if that happens

Yes I think our midfield is a huge huge issue and causing so many of our issues.

It should be the absolute priority in the coming windows.

I don't know if that's true but you have to think that's the kind of something that would have sold the project to Conte.

Don’t give up on skipp just yet

Don’t think it’s giving up but he’s not good enough yet to start in a team pushing for top 4.

It may come but he’s not had a full season in the premiership yet and so people need to be realistic.
