What makes you say that? I've always thought Levy was the money man at Spurs and controls everything regarding income/outgoings.
The fact that we do early deals all the time and other clubs do late deals all the time.

It’s how the transfer market works, it’s far from specific to Levy.

Not that it’s surprising but even if there is any truth to our interest I think there’s little to no chance he comes here.

This only remotely works for us if we can actively convince wonderkids like Echeverri there's a clear pathway into the first team much sooner than the likes of City and Chelsea and offer a better financial package to trump cash strapped Barcelona.

Being realistic, I can't see us being the overall preferred option but a year or two down the line i'd like to think we can be in a better position to compete for top young worldwide talent.

Worked for Vuskovic.

City, Chelsea, Barca etc were very keen in him also.

My memory is foggier by the day, but I don’t recall many early January deals over the last six years. As for Levy, by no means is it a generalization, but how many times have our own ITK said he has impeded deals? Dozens? A few dozen? I have no agenda against Levy. Think the bulk of everything I’ve posted supports that. But when the same refrain about his tendency to get overly involved in transfers, and haggling other teams to submission, it’s not hard to assume that he “could” be a bottleneck.

All different points to us only doing deals late in the month.

It’s a lazy, incorrect narrative.

That’s not to say other criticisms aren’t valid.

We don't "only" do deals late. However I think it's fair to say we do plenty of deals later than we'd like and that would appear to be because of Levy.

Can we not turn this thread back into a levy or early/late deals debate. I think we have covered every angle possible in those discussions.

Back on topic I think if we sell Hojbjerg then I would go for Vermereen over Phillips and Gallagher. That kids potential is through the roof.

Any agent who wants the best for their player will be wise to turn Chelsea down.

That is the worst environment for a really talented kid to go into.

Dragusin looks like a really solid option for us. Young, versatile, high quality player with good physical attributes for the system. And, given our solid track record recruiting from Italy, he looks like a really solid link.

Speaking of the Italian market...
London-based Tottenham is eyeing the acquisition of Girona's winger, Viktor Tsyhankov, in the upcoming winter transfer window, as reported by Futbol Total.

It's indicated that the British club is prepared to meet the clause specified in the contract of the Ukrainian footballer, set at 30 million euros.

Of course, I don't know the first thing about this player or the source that this is coming from but this has cropped up on the front page.

Silly season is coming and the links are going to be plentiful.

Girona is a Spanish club owned by the city group, Genoa is the Italian one.

What you say is true. We do early deals all the time but the problem is it's rarely the key players that are desperately required, and it's not players that would/could make an immediate impact that are brought in early. It's usually prospects or "good financial/contractual deals" that are tied up quickly before others can gazump us. Porro was a good example of this last January. We were desperate from day one for a RWB and the whole world knew it, yet we got him on the final day, despite negotiating for the best part of 6 weeks.

This is what needs to change because a month of being short in a key area annoys the managers and costs points, which in turn costs more money than it saves.

This of course is more January specific than the Summer window.
