Gallagher permanent and Phillips on loan (with option to buy) would be great January business.

Could ship out Hojbjerg and Skipp

I agree that based on actual contributions on the pitch (and for his own good) Skipp should be moved on, but I'm not convinced we'll do it. We're very short on club-trained players which will limit our ability to register a full squad in Europe moving forward.

Perhaps 18 months from now once the likes of Devine, Scarlett, Dorrington, Donley, Mikey Moore, etc. have had a chance to break through into the first team squad Skipp will be more expendable. For now, though, Ange clearly rates him enough that he's willing to use him, so I'm sure Ange would rather have him around the squad than be unable to register a player in his place as of next season. Ange has not shown the same willingness to give meaningful minutes to the other academy players.

I wouldn't be surprised if Skipp were seen internally as being suitable as third-choice No. 6 behind Bissouma and Bentancur, and therefore would not be shocked if we sold Hojbjerg without direct replacement. Again, I don't necessarily think this is the best option for us (or for Skipp himself), but we have to manage the club-trained situation.

If he do go for Gallagher I'd want negotiations to include strict "sell by" and "signed off by" dates agreed formally with Chelsea....otherwise we simply walk away from negotiations.

Only way to be sure we aren't being dicked around.

Is Phillips injured at the moment or not even making the match day squad.

Man, joining City May have been a nice financial decision, but if you actually enjoy playing week in, week out, it was a catastrophic decision. Makes me question his character. Did he do it for the money or did he really think he was good enough?

Probably in a huge minority here but I'd prefer Kalvin Phillips to Gallagher. He was outstanding in Bielsa's high energy Leeds team and I can't see him costing anywhere near as much as Gallagher. And before anyone says he can't get in the City team, there's no shame in not being able to displace Rodri. I also really, really don't want us helping Chelsea out of the hole they've dug themselves into.
Swap hjobjerg for Phillips and that’s good bissouma sarr cover

as temporary option rather Philips than Gallagher

He can’t even get in when Rodri doesn’t play.

I think he is a bit overrated anyway and I’d like us to sign a younger player if we want another 6 option. We already have Bissouma and Bentancur as 6 options and they’re 27 and 26 respectively. Would be better to have a young option who we can develop.

With Gallagher playing every week and being captain, I assumed he wasn't available. Given his contract length and how selling him helps with FFP, he likely is for the right price.

I watched him more for Palace than recently but the player I saw would be really good in an Ange team.

No idea if this story is true but my guess is Chelsea won't be selling cheap. A choice of Sarr, Bissouma, Bentancur and Gallagher would be amazing.

As I said, I'm probably in a minority. I'd also prefer us to spend proper money at CB and LW since we're already stacked in MF and have Donley and Devine waiting in the wings.

Can’t see us spending £50m on Gallagher
Can't see anyone spending £50m on Gallagher with 18 months left on his deal. If he doesn't move in Jan he'll in be in the final year of his contract when the transfer market next opens.

He's a £30-40m player, with a £10-20m HG tax on top for PL clubs, assuming he's fully under contract.

Highest anyone will pay in Jan is £40m IMO.
Highest anyone will pay in Summer is £30m.
After that if he hasn't signed a new deal he'll leave for free the following summer.

This is why Chelsea desperately need to sell him in Jan, he's one of their few remaining high value players that they can sell for 100% profit.

Agree, personally Im not keen. At 28 and with his injury record I think we should be staying well clear. I’m not even convinced he’d be tactically right. Ether way we should be looking at younger players in general. 26 should really be our limit imo.

If we can’t get Gallagher then we should be all over Andre Trindade. I thought he was a dead certainty for Liverpool but recent reports suggest they might not be after him now and Fulham + West Ham are keen. He’d be absolutely perfect for the system as has been mentioned on here previously. Looks an incredible talent. Assuming we can shift PEH which I’m still not convinced we will.

I’m really curious to know if they are still actively trying to get him to sign a contract extension. It’s been rumbling on for a while and Gallagher himself seemed pretty sure it would happen judging by his quotes a while back but now it’s all gone quiet. I wonder if it’s a case of them not offering him equal terms as those others around him or if they just see him as expendable so put it on hold.

Ether way £40 sounds about right. I’m sure that’s what they wanted in the summer for him so doubt it would have gone up considering his contract as you say.

He's Chelsea through and through. He'd sign a new deal at the drop of a hat if they offered it. Only reason they sell is to get 100% profit in with their FFP problems.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thinks that he’s hugely overrated. It feels like he’s another Drinkwater - worked well for a year in a high performance team, got his big move and was then found out to be bang average. My best guess is that he’ll move back to Leeds if they’re promoted back to the Premier League next season.

I think you’re probably right. If he was to achieve anything he should have gone somewhere where he’d play regularly.

Instead he got a big payday and looks like a player who didn’t make the grade.

Definitely would love the Gallagher move. Would love to see a MF with options of

Sarr/Gallagher - Biss/Bentancur - Kulu/Maddison

Skippy loan and get some funds if an offer comes for PEH

If things go well and we get into Europe you can look for a deeper lying DM playmaker since s few of the above players are interchangeable with other positions?

I read the opposite. Most who watch him don’t seem to rate him

I've been watching some of his CL matches on the TNT sports app so I can watch him across 90 mins (watched some of their recent highlights too) and I'm getting worrying Vincent Janssen vibes. A lot of his play is extremely scruffy, he seems to miss quite a lot of sitters and he just isn't that convincing. I don't think he has anything attributes wise that would make him stand out in the PL.

The more I've seen of him, the more my gut feeling tells me we shouldn't go for him.
