Win fourth or the Europa League?

Europa Cup. Interestingly I had this debate with an Arse fan the other day and he said he'd take winning the Europa Cup over playing (and having to pay for the tickets) for Champions League with the inevitable defeat to Bayern/Real/Barca at about quater finals stage.

Our model is built on buying players for cheap, if that model gets us CL football, why would Enic want to change it and why should we change it?

I like how due to there being one example of a club being in the champions league and not winning silverware it all of a sudden means that it doesn't increase your chances of winning trophies. Use logic people, not a flimsy example of a club who has chosen not to invest in their playing squad and use their kids for the CC and the early rounds of the FA cup. The fact of the matter is I (and I assume we) want longevity and prolonged success, not one europa league trophy and another 4/5 years of mediocrity.

4th every time. It's much more important to the evolution of our club and our long term sustainability at the highest level.

As has been mentioned, next season = win EL = CL anyway.

It's always a hard call when this question is raised.

Quite clearly, this season finishing 4th would be much better for the long term prospects of the club than winning the Europa League. It's not even a close contest really.

But thinking with heart rather than head, the feeling of winning a competition, the feeling of watching the final and seeing your team win that, will always be better than the feeling of finishing 4th (unless you get the sort of cup final for 4th that we had against City a few years back).

Thinking rationally I'd say getting 4th. Thinking sentimentally I'd say the Europa.

Europa League. All day, every day.

I'm not going to look back in 50 years, reminisce and say "ahhh, I remember finishing 4th". Carling Cup win was my favourite day as a Spurs fan. A EUROPEAN trophy is a huge trophy. It's on par with the FA Cup imo, especially with the revamp they've given to it (albeit next season).

The point of qualifying for the CL is to try and win it, isn't it? I'd like to look back one day and say we won the Champions League.

We've had this thread a few time before, and no one ever puts a poll. Never understood that

Bring back the old style European cup where only the champions qualify, that will put a stop to this nonsense about being a loser is more important than being a winner.

Of course not, hence my post which said i would rather win a trophy then among the runners up.
Do you think Wigan would swap their FA Cup for a place in the Premiership?
We have to be where it's at.

Agree. It has belittled every other trophy.

Unless we get a bigger stadium and the backing of a billionaire willing to burn money we aren't going to win the Champions League. As long as Man City & PSG keep finding loopholes in financial fair-play rules, Bayern keeps hoovering up all the talent in the Bundesliga with their financial clout, Monaco uses its tax haven status to get an advantage and the likes of Barca & Real continue to prosper from the lack of a collective rights deal & support from the Spanish government I can't see us ever threatening Europe's elite.
