With the talk about West Brom's Berahino for upwards of 20 million. I was surprised that there was no (obvious) speculation about Harry Kane in the Jan window. He was (until a few days ago) on a modest, by EPL standards 20k per week and is the leading scorer in the Premier League (for all competitions) with 20 goals. Is it because he's only playing his first full season in the first team ? Is it because other clubs don't rate him ? Is it because clubs don't want to get fleeced by Levy ?

Don't get me wrong, I'm delighted we get to keep him & importantly he'll not be distracted by any transfer mumurings or speculation. I'm just a little surprised that Harry reaching 20 goals at this stage of the season & not attracting the interest of any clubs is a bit of a surprise when media "outlets" love to speculate & often invent their own speculations when nothing much is happening.

Probably because teams knew he would be mega expensive and wouldn't want to leave considering no team above us could guarantee him the amount of 1st team footy we are giving him, he is Spurs fan and came through our academy.

He had a contract to 2019 with a new one on the table. Teams already knew he wasn't for sale and didn't want to leave, anyway. January isn't the big window, it's for desperate clubs. The big deals come when teams can't say no to an offer (like Swansea for Bony) or have release fees (like Cuardado) - or when teams want rid of someone (like Schurrle). No way was anyone going to bid for Kane this window.

Summer may be a different story but the contract will put some, if not all, off. While they are not guarantees a player will stay, signing one a few months before shows intent to stay and bumps the valuation right up... plus Spurs are a pain in the arse (a nice one, for us) to deal with.

HG player, from the academy, on a team competing on multiple fronts? And you think teams could afford to pry Kane from Levy?

There were no offers because every team knew they could not afford him - and at the price it would have taken to get him, he would have been so overpriced, that even the wealthy clubs could not afford to spend that much on a player in January, and stay within the bounds of ffp.

I definitely agree with this. Hypothetically though, how much do you reckon it would take to sway levy? Putting into account his potential, homegrown status, daniel levy and the fact that its january... id say 70-90m

How do you know Kane was on 20k per week ?

Curious.

Because no fucker can afford him. And unlike Berahino he doesn't want to leave.

He's ours and he's going nowhere.

because no club would have been stupid enough to think we would sell.. for whatever price.

don't get me wrong, you probably had a bunch of scouse fans on RAWK suggesting Kane has been a lifelong 'Pool fan and £15m would have convinced Spurs to sell...

But no CLUB in their right mind would think we would have even contemplated selling.

Because there are only a very few clubs with the financial ability to pry a player off of us that we don't want to sell. Couple that with Kane being very unlikely to want to leave and on a massive contract the papers (bar the Metro) knew there's no point in even starting rumours.

Contrast that with Berahino where there are lots of clubs with the financial clout and further up the ladder and the player wanted to leave and it seemed to club had a fee they were sort of after its quite different.

We're a much larger club than WBA, he's a bigger talent than Saido, and we have less need to cash in.

Signed a long term deal in the summer and just signed a new one. Plus, West Brom aren't Tottenham, their ability to turn down a £20m bid isn't as strong as ours.

Not surprised his name wasn't banded about, however I will say there seems to be a bit of disbelief about how well he has done in such a short period of time. I'm still trying to work it out myself, so it wouldn't surprise me if many clubs don't quite know what to make of him. It's like we are living in a 'create your own' kids book fantasy world, you know where you can send off your kids name and have them written into a book about playing in the cup final. I think our reality is actually made up, inadvertently created when Harry's dad bought him such a book as a joke gift, to break up the monotony of Harry stacking shelves in Sainsburys.
