This shows how bad our academy is really. or that we only allow players to go who really don't make it.
shame really but it shows how important it is for players in these academy's to get an education.

See our scouting network has done us proud!?

Fucking joke if you ask me. For the size of the club and the catchment area we have. To have only ONE truly top player to come thought the youth set up in the last 15 years is a disgrace!

Hope our next batch does better but don't hold much hope! Lots of changes needed in our youth set up.

I haven't included other players that have done well (Mounir El-Hamdaoui, Stephen Kely, Lee Barnard, Adel Taarabt, Jamie O'Hara) as their whereabouts are pretty well known!

I cant be bothered to type out a huge analysis of our youth set-up, again, but for the two above lamenting our youth set-up...

Yes it hasnt been up to scratch for the last 10-15 years, we all know that, and this is reflected in Jon's posts above. What you have to realise though is that there was only an effort made to change this in 2004 when Arnesen came in. It takes years for this effort to be seen. The first batch of what would have been the 12-14 year olds abck in 2004 are just coming through now (Livermore, Caulker et al) and already it looks more promising.

We have to give it time (at least 10-15 years) to see what effect this change has had, hopefully for the better. The signs are already promising though.

Mpoku seems to be playing for Standard liege, wiki says he played six games but the standard site says he's played 24 games, leyton fans told me he was better than townsend whilst there before being mismanaged by Slade and then we released him I guess as a result of him not playing

Wasn't he homesick or something?

Very interesting. Does not look like we missed out on anyone much (maybe El Hamadoui - consonant please Carol); which might be considered a good thing. Worth remembering that these are the ones we let go. The cream of the Academy crop produced over the last three or four years are still at the club: Button, Livermore, Townsend, Mason, Carroll, Caulker, Kane, Fredericks etc. And the current squad contains many lads whom we scouted young: Dawson, Huddlestone, Lennon, Bale, Rose, Sandro, Walker, Naughton.

Good to see though that a reasonable number of lads we let go are playing at a respectable level, and a few are doing better than I had realised. Limbersky for one, and sounds like Barcham and Archibald-Henville had storming seasons. A few might have done better but for injury, McKenna was a very tidy player, Dixon of course was prospect and I was very excited by Jamie Davis (good to learn that he is able to play at all).
